+2The Sonic Acts Biennial 2024 is picking up pace as we move into our first full week of the programme!
The exhibition opening on Friday 9 February at Looiersgracht 60 begins at 19:00 and features works by Lukas Marxt and touche—touche (among others) as well as a live, improvised set by musician Aimée Theriot at 20:30.
Then follow us to OT301 from 22:00 for the second club night of the festival featuring M.E.S.H., Prison Religion, RABIT, and more.
In A.I. Worldlings, we delve into listening, recording technologies, and A.I. with Pheobe riley Law, Jez riley French, Farzané, and Arash Akbari on Thursday 8 February from 19:00.
On Thursday 8 February, join us at Amstelpark for a concert and talks with father and daughter duo, Pheobe riley Law, Jez riley French, Farzané, and Arash Akbari.
Or join us on Saturday 10 February from 14:00 for WINDSHIELD, an immersive auditory workshop hosted by Natalia Domínguez Rangel, and an opportunity to become a ‘human microphone’.

Friday continues at the W139 at 19:00. The exhibition opening features a performative action by Brackish Collective, with works by Jota Mombaça, touche—touche, Pedro Matias, and other artists.

| 3 | Programme complete! We’re thrilled to announce the entire programme for the Sonic Acts Biennial 2024. We invite you to broaden your horizons from 2 February to 24 March, when our 30th Anniversary Edition with the theme ‘The Spell of the Sensuous’ takes over Amsterdam. Highlights include our spatial sound exhibition, ‘The Listening Room’, which hosts new commissions and archival works by artists such as Annea Lockwood, Hildegard Westerkamp, Jana Winderen, Ji Youn Kang, KMRU, Jim O’Rourke, and many others. The exhibition is part of ‘Spatial Sound Platform’, which will be located at Zone2Source, and offer many concerts, conversations, and listening sessions.
The Biennial programme also includes a collaboration between Sonic Acts and the ‘Eye on Art’ film screening series at the Eye Filmmuseum, focused on experimental work by a new generation of makers and also the rich history of avant-garde cinema.

| 5 |  Sonic Acts takes over Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum on 25 January, celebrating the launch of Ecoes #6. Join us at the cornerstone Dutch literary institution for a fun and educational evening of conversation, music, and refreshments – for free. This extended, 300-page edition reflects on and resonates with the upcoming Biennial: The Spell of the Sensuous, from 02 February to 24 March.
Sonic Acts’ curator and editor-in-chief Mirna Belina, assistant editor Hannah Pezzack, and Athenaeum’s indie mag and zine specialist Marc Robbemond discuss compiling the special issue from 18:00 – 20:00 on the 25th. Ecoes #6 includes artistic research perspectives from David Abram, Astrida Neimanis, Elvia Wilk, Margarida Mendes, François Bonnet, Denise Ferreira da Silva and Arjuna Neuman, and Susan Schuppli. In collaboration with Kristina Andersen and ten talented participants, Atoui investigates and ‘reads’ the pioneering artist’s music scores. | 11 | +2 We are still taking applications for Ji Youn Kang’s Spatial Sound Workshop at Zone2Source, taking place during the Sonic Acts Biennial 2024 between 2 February and 24 March.
Kang is a South Korean composer, performer, and sound artist based in The Hague. One of her main research interests lies in the relationship between musical and physical spaces that she explores with a variety of multichannel systems, such as the Acousmonium and wave field synthesis systems. In this site-specific workshop, participants embark on an investigation of distinct spaces in profound detail, harnessing their potential as unconventional musical instruments.

From 2 February to 24 March, various exciting events will unfold across Amsterdam, with an intensive festival weekend from 23 to 25 February. The first artists, along with more venues, will be unveiled next month.
Celebrating three decades of Sonic Acts, the 2024 anniversary edition of the Biennial, The Spell of the Sensuous, embraces the notion of ‘tuning towards otherness’. Responding to the urgency of rethinking relations across species, we will try to rethink ‘rationality’ and learn how to feel the world, opening up the potentialities of senses that can help unlock the not easily accessible connections with our surroundings.

| 14 | +1 🔊 Ji Youn Kang is set to facilitate an extensive and engaging course, the Spatial Sound Workshop at Zone2Source, part of the Sonic Acts Biennial 2024, 2 February - 24 March.
In this site-specific workshop, we embark on an exploration of distinct spaces in profound detail, harnessing their potential as unconventional musical instruments. We will use various tools such as microphones, loudspeakers, and some basic programming to discover the voices of these spaces and let them ‘sing together’.
The workshop takes place over the duration of 2 months, starting Tuesday, 6 February and culminating in a public presentation on Sunday 17 March.
There is a participation fee of €125. For students €80.
