FAO: Heathens in SW England Every Midsummer the Hearth of Devon holds a blot to Thunor at which non-members are welcome, providing they are Heathen. We camp around Thor's oak tree, make offerings and prayers and then have a meal and drink into the night with singing and festivities. If you would like to attend, contact the admin of the HOD fb page and give some proof you are a practising Heathen. Non-believers are not permitted. https://www.facebook.com/HearthofDevon/

Pagan practices banned in Cnut’s laws, 995AD; -Making offerings at waterfalls and trees. -Making oaths to the heathen Gods. -Saluting and worshipping the sun and moon. -Worshipping fire, wells, stones and trees. -Animal guising; likely the practice of Yule processions, wherein people wore animal masks. ⴲ

Germanic theology in the Eddas I had a follower ask me which sections of Edda literature I thought contained the primary sources for general Germanic theology and belief. Here is a list I came up with. I know that others may disagree thinking there are other areas or text that should be mentioned. However, I intend this for general beginners. The Völuspá: shows a common Eurasian/ Indo-European creation myth that reflects similar things in the Greek tales as well as the Rig Veda Mandala 10. It also shows the cycle of life and rebirth, similar to other Indo-European groups and Samara. As well as the creation of man. Rígsþula: shows the creation of the tripartite caste system. The Hávamál: has proverbial wisdom for daily life and warriors. and Odin's path to Enlightenment / Runes. Grímnismál: 8-10, Helgakviða I-II, and Völuspá 32 stanza describe Valhalla. Helgakviða : Reincarnation Grímnismál and Gylfaginning describe Asgard in general, which can be compared to Elysium and Olympus / Svargaloka / Mt. Sumeru (Meru). Gylfaginning: (as long as someone can decipher the Euhemerism) shows the Order from Chaos, the organization of the Heavens, and the role of the Gods as well as Odin's position as God/Chieftain. Note: I think the Völsunga saga in general presents a majority of the folklore and cultural setting that would represent all Germanic peoples. https://t.me/hammerandvajra

I was reading a prayer to Apollo and took inspiration from it to make this prayer to Baldr. I felt it was worth sharing considering it is appropriate for the season. Feel free to use it. :) I hark and bring to mind he who reigns from his holy hall in heaven. Come O' Blessed Lord of the Bright Sun, Boundlessly beloved Baldr, Bliss-Bringing Bestower of Blessings, Bleeding Lord, Layer of Limitless Love, Gleaming God. You who’s brow shines as bright as the sun and brings us boons aplenty; Your solar eyes dispel the darkness. With your return, you radiate rapture from Heaven above. You, O Baldr, who restores hope and happiness to all beings on Midgard. Great is he who honors you, wicked is he who do not. We wish to be in your presence, O Far Wanderer, so that we may be in your wonderful light once more. Bless us this day precious Baldr.

Before the gods that made the gods Had seen their sunrise pass, The White Horse of the White Horse Vale Was cut out of the grass. Before the gods that made the gods Had drunk at dawn their fill, The White Horse of the White Horse Vale Was hoary on the hill. Age beyond age on British land, Aeons on aeons gone, Was peace and war in western hills, And the White Horse looked on. For the White Horse knew England When there was none to know; He saw the first oar break or bend, He saw heaven fall and the world end, O God, how long ago. taken from THE BALLAD OF THE WHITE HORSE By G.K. The Krogsta-stone, the oldest known runestone in Uppland, Sweden. The date is estimated to somewhere around 550. It is one of the few runestones we have in Uppland that are from the vendel era, and one of few runestones written in elder futhark. It's hard to tell what it says, but one interpretation of the stone reads: "Sven vilar här. Stör ej hans griftero, ty skräck föds ur talet nio." "Sven rests here. Don't disturb his eternal rest, for terror is born from the number nine."

This is an exciting new find from Kent, England. It is a 6th-7th century copper alloy patrix bearing an odinic spear dancer like those found across other Germanic countries.

🔗: https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/st-george-s-day-2024-english-bank-holiday-b2533068.html “The petition argues that a St George’s Day holiday would let English people “celebrate their shared history and cultural identity”. But we aren’t responsible for our history. We weren’t there. So why should we be proud of it?” You’re right, Femi. As the child of Nigerian immigrants who arrived here in the 1980s, you feature nowhere in our history. You have nothing in English history to be proud of - but, like every other English person, I do. I can visit places my ancestors personally built, read archived English newspapers and books that name my ancestors and commemorate their presence in this land, visit generations of graves where blood has finally mixed with soil toiled over. You cannot. You are not included in the “we” denoting us English. You are not English, you do not speak for us. We deserve St George’s Day to celebrate because it is a history worth celebrating - and what you think does not matter.

I'm also wearing my Sigurd shirt for the day of the dragon slayer. This one was from Theatre of War. Sadly I don't think they're running anymore as the owner passed away last year. Happy Sigurd's day everyone and I hope you all have a successful Easterblót.

Our sacred site for Easterblot. With its two natural granite pillars, walking up to the tor you get a sense of divine presence. As though it is meant to be a temple or harrow. Camping here tonight, then we rise at dawn to welcome the goddess.
