Scammers may target online shoppers by posting enticing deals for items such as festive food and becoming uncontactable after payment is made.
⚠️ How you can stay safe:
1️⃣ Always shop on well-established e-commerce platforms and check the platform's safety rating on MHA's Transaction Safety Ratings for major e-commerce platforms.
2️⃣ Check the credibility of the seller based on customers' reviews before you transact.
3️⃣ If you are expecting a parcel delivery, do not click on links provided in unsolicited messages or emails, asking you to make additional payment. Instead, contact the company directly or check through their official app.

*Police Alert - New Phishing Scam on WhatsApp*
• When using online search engines, the query “WhatsApp Web” may produce returns that include links to fake websites.
• When victims click to access a fake website and scan the QR code provided, this allows a scammer to log into the victim’s WhatsApp account from a new linked device.
• Scammers then impersonate victims & ask the victims’ contacts for transfer of monies or personal/banking details.
1️⃣ *ADD* security to your use of WhatsApp by enabling the ‘Two-Step Verification’ feature. Activate your notifications to be alerted to changes to linked devices.
2️⃣ *CHECK* that you are using the official WhatsApp Web website - https://web.whatsapp.com. Check your “Settings” for unauthorised linked devices. Be wary of unusual requests from your contacts whose accounts may be compromised.
3️⃣ *TELL* and report fraudulent transactions to your bank and Police immediately.

❗ New Phishing Scam Alert: WhatsApp Web 📱
A fake version of WhatsApp Web has been floating around, tricking victims into scanning the QR code to authorise access to their computers or tablets, only to give scammers concurrent access to their WhatsApp accounts.
Scammers then take this opportunity to reach out to victims’ WhatsApp contact and make unusual requests, such as asking for loans, i-banking or personal details.
Victims would only realise their WhatsApp accounts were compromised after their contacts notified them.

*Emerging trend of malware spread through fraudulent postings involving sale of food items*
Scammers would post advertisements promoting food items on social media platforms like Facebook.
Upon clicking on the advertisement’s link, victims would be redirected to WhatsApp and asked to:
(a) Download an APK file which resembles the FairPrice Group or Sheng Siong applications to place their orders
(b) Make a PayNow/bank transfer as a payment/deposit for delivery of the food items or become a member
The APK application contains malware, allowing scammers to access victims’ phones remotely to steal personal information.
Victims would realise they were scammed after unauthorised transactions were made from their bank accounts.

✅️Enhancing capabilities of service providers for early identification and intervention
