“What home feels like…” Part 2 ✔️ Mr “Yes” When suddenly I bumped into someone I didn’t expect to bump into… A boy. I see him waking all alone down the street. I don’t see his face, but he looks quite small. He is about 4. He is hunching and walking really slowly. All by himself. The world stops for a while for me, but not for anyone else. No one sees him… I overtook him and looked closer. He was wearing stylish black jeans and a denim jacket. I came over to him, squatted in front of him and looked him in the eye. He obediently stopped and looked back. There was something about him I couldn’t put my figure on. His face was so beautiful, his eyes were so deep. Apparently he had been walking not knowing where he was heading to. I said: “Hey buddy! Are you lost?” There was a moment of silence… He didn’t respond. He just looked at me with his beautiful dark sad eyes… I took him in my arms and held him tight. His heart was beating like a drum. I could feel now how scared he was. I started speaking all the languages I know but he obviously didn’t understand any of them. On my question “What is your name?” He responded: “Yes.” Now I was lost. I didn’t know what to do or where to run. Me in the centre of Istanbul with a lost boy. I started getting nervous. But then I pulled myself together and hugged him really tight. I looked into his eyes and said: “It’s gonna be fine, ok? We are gonna find who you belong to, right? Do you trust me?” He nodded in such a hopeful and grateful way as if he understood something. He sad: “Yes”. At least this “yes” was in the right place. I felt a big relief. I was holding him in my hands like he was a baby. He didn’t resist. I gave another try to talk to him but any question I asked him was met with “yes”. I desperately needed help. And I decided not to wait and act. I stopped a passer by on the street: a tall man with broad shoulders who was wearing a tracksuit and snickers and walking as if he has all the time in the world. -Excuse me sir. - I said, not actually knowing how to start my conversation. - Do you by any chance know what to do with lost kids in Turkey? ⁃ That’s the most baffling question I’ve heard in my life. - He said. ⁃ That’s the most baffling situating I’ve been through in my life. I have a “yes -man” in my hands, who doesn’t know any other words but yes. And I have no idea what to do with him. ⁃ Well… If you are not framed and someone is not gonna arrest you for kidnapping, we can figure something out. But you know, Turkey in unpredictable. They can make it as if you kidnapped him and get you in prison. I guess for the beginning you should put him down. I followed his advice. Police was the last place I wanted to go. But he was right. And he was my blessing. We went on together to the police car. Me, Mr “yes” and Noah: my new friend. Noah was from Texas and he had this beautiful southern accent that was so dear to me. And… surprisingly he could speak some Turkish. He’s been living in Istanbul for a while. So Noah asked the “yes-man” some questions in Turkish. But the boy didn’t understand Turkish either. Where was he from? He looked at me and kept on saying: “yes”. I didn’t really get whether it was because of a shock or he really wasn’t following us. I couldn’t think of anything else but how to calm him down holding him in my arms. I didn’t care about a prison and kidnapping or any trouble I could have got myself into. This little “yes man” was in a real trouble and he needed to feel home more than I did before I met him. Now he was my little home. And I had to save this home from danger. 🟣Have you ever felt or been lost? 🟡How did it feel? 🟣How did you bring your home back?
