पुत्रदार सहस्त्रैर्हि भ्रातानघ विशिष्यते । सद्वृत्तो ज्ञानसम्पन्न इति ब्रह्मा पुराब्रवीत् ॥ (HariVamsha 2.70.26) ‘निष्पाप देवर्षे ! पूर्वकालमें ब्रह्माजीने ऐसा कहा था कि सदाचारी और ज्ञानसम्पन्न भाई हजारों स्त्रियों और पुत्रोंसे बढ़कर है ॥ In the past, Lord Brahma had said that a "virtuous" and "knowledgeable" brother is greater than thousands of wives and sons. नास्ति भ्रातृसमो बन्धुराहार्य इतरो जनः । इति मामवीन्माता पिता चैव प्रजापतिः ॥ (2.70.27 ) My mother and my father Kashyapa had told me that there is no other friend like a brother Because He is a natural friend, and other people become friends by providing something. मेरी माता तथा मेरे पिता प्रजापति कश्यपजीने मुझसे कहा था कि भाईके समान दूसरा कोई बन्धु नहीं है; क्योंकि वह स्वाभाविक बन्धु है और दूसरे लोग भोजन आदि देकर बनाये हुए हैं ॥

[Before writing this note , my Dandvat Pranaams to Gurudev , all the Dharmik Brahmins , Saints and Sajjans by whose only grace I'm able to write this , even without having any genuine qualification and eligibility] A student while preparing for any exam searches a lot for a good teacher, he checks the teacher's background, from which college he'd completed his education , what experience and qualifications he's having and whether the teacher really worships that knowledge or he's just a hypocrite who teaches for only money. After checking all these criteria, the student finally decides to study under that teacher and prepare for his examinations with his guidance. I hope you all are familiar with the above scenario and must've already experienced this in your own life as well. Now , some people who are interested in spirituality often complain that there are no real Gurus present in today's world, every other saint comes out to be a fraudster etc. etc. Brother, did you really put any effort to search for a Guru who'll teach you the ultimate truth? For our materialistic entrance exams , we take months to search a good teacher but when it comes to the only genuine exam which matters in human life i.e. our Spiritual journey, without putting any effort we just start complaining that there are no real Gurus because media majorly shows only those who are frauds and hypocrites. For finding a teacher, you checked his background. But in case of the Guru , you don't want to look for his background and past. For teacher , you checked from which college he passed out. But for Guru , you don't want to know from which Sampraday Parampara your Guru should belong. For teacher, you checked his educational qualifications. But for Guru , you don't want to know what are the qualities of a real Guru. For teacher , you checked what he practices in his daily life. But for Guru , you don't want to know what is his daily routine and what he's doing for the society. Now some people will complain that “You don't need to search for a Guru , he will appear when the right time comes” Alright, but look at yourself. Do you really think God will send a Guru to a person who's really lazy and not having a strong desire to know the Absolute Truth? No brother, Wake Up. In this Ghor Kaliyuga , only a real Guru can save you. Don't be a lazy person waiting for the right time. Increase your Sadhana and pray to Ishvara for Sanidhya of a right Guru. Bhagwan Adi Shankaracharya on Traditional Interpretation of Scriptures , Importance of Sampradaya and Guru Parampara आत्मा स्वयं मूढः अन्यान् च व्यामोहयति शास्त्रार्थसम्प्रदायरहितत्वात् श्रुतहानिम् अश्रुत कल्पनां च कुर्वन्। तथा वह आत्महत्यारा, शास्त्रके अर्थकी सम्प्रदायपरम्परासे रहित होनेके कारण, श्रुतिविहित अर्थका त्याग और वेदविरूद्ध अर्थकी कल्पना करके स्वयं मोहित हो रहा है और दूसरोंको भी मोहित करता है। तस्माद् असम्प्रदायवित् सर्वशास्त्रविद् अपि मूर्खवद् एव उपेक्षणीयः। सुतरां जो शास्त्रार्थकी परम्पराको जाननेवाला नहीं है, वह समस्त शास्त्रोंका ज्ञाता भी हो तो भी मूर्खोके समान उपेक्षणीय ही है। That Self-immolator, being devoid of any link with the traditional interpreters of the purport of the scriptures, misinterprets what is enjoined in the scriptures and imagines what is not spoken there, and thereby himself becoming deluded, befools others too.
