Holy shit this is real..... in the NY Times: "Zackery Nazario, a 15-year-old from New York City, died on February 20, 2023, while attempting to subway surf atop a moving Brooklyn-bound J train crossing the Williamsburg Bridge. His mother, Norma Nazario, alleges that social media algorithms on TikTok and Instagram (owned by ByteDance and Meta) directed dangerous challenge videos to her son, leading to his death after he was struck by a low beam and run over by the train. Norma filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Meta, ByteDance, and the MTA, arguing the platforms addicted Zackery to harmful content and the transit authority failed to secure train doors. A New York judge allowed the claims against the social media giants to proceed, ruling she can prove they "goaded" him via addictive product design, but dismissed the MTA claims based on common sense. The case highlights the growing legal scrutiny of tech companies regarding their impact on teen safety and the proliferation of viral, dangerous stunts online. "

Tales from the papermill: Oil is hydroscopic. It absorbs water. My company has a dehydrator that we rent to mills to remove the water from their hydraulic oil system. At an undisclosed tissue mill in South Carolina, they got done using the dehydrator and returned it to us. They did NOT put caps on the jumper hoses used to get oil from their reservoir to our dehydrator. Matter of fact they left the hoses laying on a pallet in the basement for next year. So a year later, all that dust had stuck to hte inside of the hoses and it got introduced into their oil system. Next thing you know the servo valves that load the press aren't in balance and they ran off the press fabric. That fabric piled up and tore the wire off the machine. That's a $200,000 parts day right there. We continued to chase gremlins in various servo valves for a month.

This is what the basement of a tissue mill looks like.
