What is happening to me indiafire @ Microsoft As I am making more money I am forgetting where to spend it. There was a time I had friends, I had wishes to go and have fun. Now I do a 9-5 job which becomes more like a 12 hour job and I hardly have interests left. I got married have kids, I just lost all identity beyond being a guy who gets a paycheck every 2 weeks and that paycheck goes in mortgage, bills, groceries. My life has become boring. Is this normal. For New Year’s dinner, I invited a group of Christian neighbors to my house, where me and my SO worked for literally 3 days and 3 nights, preparing food upon food upon elaborate dishes of food. First thing the neighbors say when we dig in, is “Thank you God for this delicious meal.” What the fuck. I (and SO) MADE THE FUCKING MEAL. Not your Christian God. They didn’t utter a single word of thanks to me nor my SO. Just kept thanking their “God” for the meal that I FUCKING MADE. We were both super uncomfortable and even now, the more I think about it the angrier I get. Never inviting Christians over again. @blind_feed

The job market is not bad, its a false Blind claim kejty @ ex-Meta I just recently started looking for a new position SWE only 5 yoe, i'm getting spamed by recruiters on linkedin, got 6 first round interviews scheduled for next 2 weeks, including FAANG (not phone screens). The catch is ... these are all onsite/hybrid positions, remote jobs is the real battleground and here the market is insanely bad, i only had 2 phone screens for remote jobs and didn't moved into first round, and they weren't even high paying positions, and this is what i need because i already moved to Florida after COVID, but looks like i might have no choice but to relocate :( @blind_feed

Having a hard time with wife Hsqz04 @ Amazon Facing a hard time convincing my wife that we need to buy a home. We recently had a baby (1 month old). She doesn’t want to leave the baby for a couple of hours on weekend to look at a couple of homes that I shortlist after visiting 5-10 homes on the previous day. Am I being unreasonable asking her to just spend 2-3 hrs looking at homes? I am just worried that we will be priced out if we wait till summer. Tc 300k @blind_feed

Household TC shy off 1m still can’t buy in Bay Area Kymmie @ VMware Me and hubby adds up to a TC a little short of 1m. 2 kids (middle school) studying in private school $5200 per month, rented house $5500 in Sunnyvale, part time nanny / cook, contributes 401k to max limit. We able to save couple grands per month from salary with 800k cash savings + emergency fund (no vested RSU, around 500k unvested) My hubby is adamant on sticking to 3m house but our lenders are okay till 4.2m. I believe his planning due to series of good financial decisions he made in past but I really feel he’s overthinking this time. I don’t want to go against him and argue until I have enough data. Seeking help from blind community for different perspective. Is hosting market really skewed? Is it worth spending over 3m for 1800sqft house? We are looking in Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Saratoga or Los Altos area only due to proximity to our offices. (I hope he’s not reading this but it’s fine he knows me well 😊) #housing @blind_feed

Which companies are worth working right now? hof38m @ Google Google was a great place and an optimal combination of good work, amazing colleagues, wlb and flexibility, pay and benefits. You could certainly get one (or two) of these elsewhere but the combination was very difficult to find. It's steeply declining and is the next Amazon in the making. Meta, Amazon, Databricks are high stress. TikTok is 996. LinkedIn and Atlassian used to be good places to work, looks like not anymore. Microsoft is low pay and rolling layoffs. Netflix doesn't hire a lot. So maybe Apple or Uber? Any other companies? @blind_feed

Before gloating or making light of news about layoffs… 👽🤖👆🤢😴🫨🙄🙁😇a @ Brex Please appreciate that both current and former employees after a layoff are hurting, are anxious, scared, angry and every emotion in between. Those “lucky” enough to remain are facing enormous workloads under the constant gun of being next to let go. And of course, above all else, is the strain facing colleagues and friends who’ve been unceremoniously kicked to the curb, often with the minimum of minimum severance in a very challenging job market. These are real humans with real emotions, families and lives thrown into turmoil every time you hear about layoffs. The last thing you would ever want to hear people crowing about if it happened to you. #layoff #empathy @blind_feed

WFH is awful globohomo @ Airbnb After 4 years of full remote. I’m about to quit my job, take a pay cut and go back into the office 4 days a week. I’m fucking tired of not seeing anyone. I’m tired of people telling me to find hobbies. Not all of us have a spouse or family nearby. The office made me happy. The office gave me friends. It gave me a commute. I was part of a community. Why is living in America so costly? SWPeasant @ Meta My TC 500k, but only due to meta stock appreciation. Normal TC is more around 380k. Wife TC 270k. That might sound like a lot of money but: Mortgage: 4500 Property tax: 2000 Day care for younger: 2200 Car insurance: 190 Home insurance: 150 Internet+cell phone: 80 school lunches for older: 300 Weekly home cleaner: 150 This is not counting random one off expenses like fixing a broken garage door 500, summer camp 5000, changing a car battery: 300. Oh yea, heating: 750 in winter. AC 500 in summer. Vacations? I will spare you the shock. We almost never go out to eat except sometimes fast food. Never use door dash or Uber eats. @blind_feed

Honestly, the USA should cancel H1B for tech workers right now ryeu6362 @ Knight Barry Title Group There is no shortage of tech workers. We have endless domestic graduates struggling to get jobs. Endless layoffs right now. The whole point of H1B is to help job shortages. Too many H1B are held ‘hostage’ and willing to become slaves at companies like Amazon and the employers know this too. H1B should be re-done and should target in demand sectors. They should be getting jobs on the oil rigs, linemen, farms, truck driving, post office, waiters, gate agents, pilots, teachers etc. Jobs that are actually in demand. For some reason though, a lot of people think they are too good for this. All these layoffs and we are still doing H1B? It makes no sense. @blind_feed

When Trump won in 2016… joaklij @ Proofpoint I felt like there was still hope left for this country. The whole thing was an overwhelming sigh of relief. America and Americans first. Say things as they are, not sugar-coating for the sake of being politically-correct. Was busy for a couple of days and finally had lunch with her She wore a short shirt and a over jacket We were talking different topics but all throughout she was constantly pulling her shirt down to cover her mid riff (that’s exposed as her shirt short and only half way ) We were dining in a table where her mid riff is not even visible - but she’ll ask me a question and I’ll answer and immediately she’ll start adjusting Man - was so frustrated. Made me feel so uncomfortable and can’t even ask about this .Is this any psychological game to manipulate ?? Or does she think am a pervert ? If so why call me for lunch ?
