Are people with 1m homes really paying 7-12k a month? playerz @ Blockdaemon I look at Redfin and it shows estimate monthly costs of like 8-18k for a lot of homes assuming 20% down. I own an expensive home but I paid for it in cash. I am wondering if others with 1m homes are mostly paying cash or are you forking out 8k+ a month? @blind_feed

I wanted to share my experiences ( Note: I'm not laid off , but these three years are the worst of my whole career ..Work Culture is Not What I Expected). Google, with its reputation, was a dream job for me. However, the reality was different from what I anticipated. While there are many brilliant minds and innovative projects, I found the work environment challenging in ways I didn't expect. 1. Intense Competition and Politics: One of the biggest issues I faced was the internal competition. It often felt like a constant battle for recognition, leading to a culture where ass-kissing and backstabbing were more prevalent than I've seen elsewhere. This environment can be draining and is not conducive to genuine teamwork or collaboration. 2. Work-Life Balance Struggles: Despite the perks and flexible work options, the workload was often overwhelming. The expectation to consistently perform at an extremely high level without adequate support or resources was stressful. 3. Innovation vs. Bureaucracy: While Google is known for innovation, I found that bureaucracy often hindered progress. Getting new ideas off the ground was more about navigating the internal politics than the merit of the idea itself. 4- Feeling Overwhelmed and Disheartened Feeling really down and stressed out. There's so much office politics and lies, and it seems like the same projects keep getting recycled so people can look good and get ahead. I’m broken mcAI45 @ New I’ve been laid off for a month and I will need to give up my life in New York City because I do not have the income or savings to continue living here. The layoff has hit me extremely hard and I am not having an easy time with my job search. With more recent layoffs from companies like Google and Discord, the future only looks bleak. I am so broken and defeated and so ashamed for even trying in the first place. There is nothing good ahead and I will have to end the pain. If I leave this city, I leave my friends, people I loved. I have no other options, though. Layoffs are extremely rough on the mind and spirit. Yes, I have enough savings to survive for a bit, but I cannot renew a lease without an income. Buying a condo in Seattle is the worst financial decision of my life mrGaps @ Apple Bought a condo in 2022 for roughly 320K at 4.25% interest rate and put around 70K down (from 401K and some stocks) and was paying 1800 for mortgage + HOA. However I was stupid and didn’t do my due diligence , I knew there was a special assessment when I bought but didn’t really think too much about it. The assessment came in last year and the HOA locked us into a 15 year loan that has me paying an additional $400 per month. So with a 1500 mortgage, 800 in HOA fees and 175 for property management i’m paying close to 2500 for the place. And I had to give r a concession to the tenant due to the property managers not doing their jobs which puts me at $2700 per month. However I no longer live in that condo due to personal reasons i had to move and i’m renting it out now for about $1700. However due to miscommunication between property managers and myself , it was never communicated to tenant there would be construction on building so now I had to give them a concession for a couple months while construction is going on. All in all I truly regret this decision to buy this condo not only am I out of pocket $1000 per month for a place I don’t live in, according to Redfin it’s depreciated by $25k since i bought it. And what’s even worse is because it’s a condo in order to sell it the TENANT has to decide to not renew their lease , that doesn’t make any sense when it’s MY condo. I obviously want to sell because at this point I want to cut my losses but i’m curious to see if anyone here has any other opinions on what I should do. Right now i’m trying to see if I can offer tenant a concession so that I can market place while they’re living in it and then they leave was sale is done, prosperity managers say to wait until tenant has elder to market but seeing how they’ve been a total pain in my ass I doubt they have my best interests at mind. Take for example the amount we have to shell out in taxes, add in the crazy rents in locations that even pay this much and you realize that we’re fucked for life. We’re destined to be middle class wage slaves who will never sniff the life of upper middle class and elite folks. Averaged over a 20 year career, our savings will probably be in the 1.5-2.5M range and given how high inflation is, that would be the equivalent of a solidly lower-middle class lifestyle. The only people enjoying life with a big spoon are people whose net worth stands at 10M minimum TODAY, not tomorrow. Such people might be worth $25M+ in the next 15 years. I think bar getting lucky, we’re completely fucked. Unless you become a founder and manage to get a sizable amount of funding so you can cash out a few millions in secondaries after a round, you’re super duper fucked and it’s not even funny. Ultimately, $150-250k is not even enough to live in Seattle. I can’t even believe how people with kids get by given I’m a young single guy. Unbelievable! TC: Making 190k is a life of continued slavery paying dues to the ultimate masters who make $1M a year at a minimum. Fuck this “wagie” life ; someone wire $1.5B to my Bank Account. Fuck! @blind_feed

Regret buying a Tesla coasterica @ Google Less than a month ago, I bought a Model X and I strongly regret it! The car seemed fine during delivery. But as soon as I accepted it, the car started making a squeaking noise, very annoying. I had to live with that for 2 weeks until my service appointment. They spent 3 days to fix it. Then I received my car with a damaged steering wheel. I took it back and they replaced it with a new one. Now there's another noise coming from the front wheels. The soonest service appointment is mid-Feb (almost a month from now). This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm starting to hate the car. Plus a few other issues (bumpy uncomfortable ride, terrible defog, no front camera, etc). I'm seriously thinking of selling it and buying something else. Maybe BMW iX or EQS SUV. JoeWA @ Amazon My boss sent me this unexpected email at 9pm with this in it: “Hence I would like to propose a structured plan for the next 60 days that will help you to work and demonstrate consistency in your performance. We will do check in on this on our 1:1’s every week and tweak our plan as necessary . The below plan is for the first 30 days , we will work on additional plan for the next 60 days as we progress this plan” Does this mean I’m under a negative performance review? I may have potential job offer from another team coming tomorrow, I’m assuming that will be impacted? I just got this email tonight. What are my options? The issues my manager lists are all crazy. The guys is a terrible manager. He also started email with “per our discussion” but we did not discuss this. I feel like he was too scared to say this in person to me. @blind_feed
