There's no place in Blind like the Google group!
spichai42 @ Google
I wish everyone could see the discussions in the company groups. It is hilarious. A summary of posts in the Google group:
- Upper management is a bunch of morons;
- It is so unfair that I (or a colleague) have been laid off;
- I can no longer coast. Let's unionize!
You can witness many L5 and L6 people who have been coasting at Google for 10+ years, trying to hold on to their privilege. They are not L7+ material and yet are getting 500K+ per year. There is a post about an L6 making 970K/year just because of stock grants at the right time. These people are in the tightest golden handcuffs of history, complaining about management!
In another post, an L6 making ~500K and working less than 20 hours/week does the Math to talk about why not going to Meta and concludes: not worth getting 1M to work 50-60 hours/week! Others want to interview and get an offer from another company, hoping HR will give them a counteroffer. Nobody wants to leave Coaster Paradise!
Those who came here during the last 5 years are looked down as "missed the boat". It is a terrrible environment right now!

Did leadership collectively shit their pants last year? All of them mismanaged their company to the point that all of them have to do layoff?

Thank you America - Bye bye!
tinybigbro @ Microsoft
Guys, it looks like this is the end of the road for me in tech and with that comes the end of my American journey.
I came here as an undergrad in college and started my first full time gig at Microsoft. Wait for it, itās only been 2 years of experience and Iām done.
What happened?
My manager is preparing to give me a bad rating in my performance evaluation. I know the usual reaction is to tough it out and deliver on commitments and so on. Iām not saying he was wrong. Iām just sayingā¦ā¦.!
However, I just reflected on my life and it was crystal clear to me that I should pack my bags and go back home. This is not the way I wanted my American journey to end but what the hell? YOLO!
Leaving behind:
- An unclaimed H1B lottery (Consular Processing but your boy is going to be a no show at the interview)
- A pending PERM for Greencard
Plans:
- Europe for two months
- Africa for two months
- South America for two months
Thank you Blind for all the fun. Thank you America. Itās been a wild ride and I enjoyed every single minute of it all. Sayonara baby!
A la prochaine fois. Merci ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Your Middle Managers are Trash. Donāt Let them Gaslight You
clockapp @ TikTok
TC: 325
YOE:6
Iāve been working in big tech for about 4 years. Prior to my time at Meta and before TikTok, I was in the Air Force as Pararescue. I then earned a Masters in Political Science. Iāve been published 6 times. I then worked at US State Department where I managed teams of 60 and published reports that have made it into the PDB. I took a role as an IC in tech because government work doesnāt pay particularly well.
Suffice to say, in addition to my technical role, Iām also a domain subject matter expert. Since joining big tech, Iāve been flabbergasted at the amount of gaslighting Iāve seen with mid level managers and even directors. Managers will often flaunt their position and exploit it in order to go on trips that are unnecessary and irrelevant, they often turn down ideas from subordinates who have far more experience only to discover that person was right down the road, and they love to hoard information.
For organizations that pride themselves on being flat, thereās an excessive amount of hierarchical stovepipes that are manifesting.
Managers also LOVE meetings. Any opportunity to get in front of their boss to get a belly rub. They have no agenda, they talk about nothing and congratulate themselves on work that the ICs did.
The lack of leadership that can be emulated is sick. There are literally kids with undergraduate degrees gaslighting ICs with PHds and actual, real world subject matter expertise into thinking their ideas are irrelevant. It would be unheard of for a fresh Air Force Academy Graduate to tell a Flight Chief that they donāt know what theyāre talking about.
Basically thereās no leadership worthy of learning from in Tech because the experienced folks are on the bottom of the pyramid not at the top. These asshats will then PIP people while never having to worry about it themselves. Awful system.
My point is, if youāre an IC who has practical experience, donāt listen to these absolute tool sheds who are implying that you donāt know what they do. They have the job because they were there when opportunity arrived or were hired by someone who was not because they earned it. You know what youāve done. Remember your worth
Gut middle management!

A warning about Capital One
tired1234 @ Capital One
I just wanted to warn anybody who might read this now or in the future to never ever join Capital One if you have any other better offers.
This place is the worst. Here are some reasons why:
1. Stack ranking twice a year with results in anywhere from 6-20+% of the population forced into the "below strong" category. This % is tweaked every six months depending on how much "attrition" they want.
2. Politics here is the worst.
3. You'll get to see a grown ass man (the ceo) cry/weep once a year on the company all call. Last year it was for Taylor Swift. Can you imagine an old ass man crying to a grown ass women singing about her love failures?
4. People routinely make stuff up and throw people under the bus to meet the forced distribution for the bi-annual stack ranking games.
5. The internal culture is in the gutters at the moment.
6. This company does not reward technical skill, it rewards popularity and the ability to talk nonsense. You'll see people use buzz words overly to beef up their presentations.
7. Again, technical talent here is not the best. The tech here is trash.
8. Every internal project is poorly documented and nobody knows how anything works. You've got to ask around to learn how anything works and after you've asked, you'll realize nobody knows anything.
9. Gaslighting is very common here.
10. And i have to state this again if you missed my 1st point, stack ranking here is the absolute worst. It breaks down a human and demoralizes everybody. They literally make stuff up to meet the distribution. They lie without any shame.
When i interviewed here i was sold the idea that this company cares about its people and is a great stable place to work. That was an absolute lie! Heed this warning.

Donāt like touching
y2kpo @ New
I am female in mid 20s, and at this point, I think that I will remain virgin for the rest of my life. But I am not asexual. I do enjoy kissing and touches of my partners. But I donāt like to touch them or see them naked. I know, I am weird.
This was always the main issue in my relationships, and of course, I can understand the perspectives of my partners and why they may feel frustrated. But at this point, I donāt think I can change myself.
In case you may think that I am lesbian, no, I am not. I am attracted to guys only. I workout and maintain healthy lifestyle. So, I donāt have any problems with my body image nor major insecurities. Thus, this cannot be the reason of my āweirdnessā either.
I used to stress about that, but now I finally started to accept it.. Does anyone here have the same weirdness? I am thinking about going to therapist, but not sure if therapists consider people with such problems.

Here is why Microsoft is fucked! Senior Leadership should evaluate ASAP
raju kaju @ Microsoft
1. Bunch of liberal arts majors getting hired as PMs fresh off college, who can't even fucking run a simple script. These arts majors dipshits delegate everything to engineering teams who pick up the paltry work the dipshits were hired to do. Overhiring leads to deflated wages and higher layoffs.
2. L66/67 managers who delegate everything to subordinates and then take credit for everything. Most of them have no communication skills or emotional intelligence. They build empires for personal growth and hire dipshits like liberal arts majors who present no threat to them.
Someone should audit this fucking company..its a joke.

Married men - how did you convince wife to delay kids
HamSaltman @ Meta
Both of us in our late 20s, both had agreed when we got together that kids are not a priority and we'll push it to 35+
Been attending a bunch of baby showers/first birthdays in 2023 and wife has changed her mind on our pact
Was anyone in this situation, how did you handle it?

META Performance Layoffs
MBNV34 @ New
Looks like META is planning broader layoffs and putting downward pressure on performance reviews. Best friendās manager told him that he will fight for meets expectations (mid) but it could be meets most (next step down). Anyone in the PSC process know if itās true that thereās active grade deflation like this article suggests? Et tu META???
