Currently doing a Bootcamp for data science right now right now. To help fill the gap a bit. Did a lot of easy applies on LinkedIn and some direct applies. Both with large and unknown companies. Today we played the “Two Truths, One lie” game with an added twist that no one knows who has written it , and people have to guess it. Well someone wrote “I Have a sweet tooth and cannot stop myself from gorging food all night!” And second thing they wrote is “I love making sweet desserts and cooking and eating what I cook” EVERYBODY exclaimed “it is whehu!” Nope it was a skinny girl who was showing off she eats a lot and stays thin. Never felt so embarrassed On top of that I wrote that I love running , and they all said “must be the skinny girl!”. When it was revealed it was me, someone snickered out so loud! First time in my life , I had to google what it all meant before selecting what am. I am straight male so it’s “Cisgender male”. The last few weeks have been the worst of my life, I’ve battled lousy thoughts, thrown up every single day, questioned my decision about having babies every waking moment. This is social contract is the affordability of owning a home if you are skilled and contribute to society. We’re at a point where even the Relatively high earning young people are having trouble finding a home worth living to buy. Imagine what the average and below average earners are going through In the 25 years we’ve gone from the average home costing ~3x the average annual salary to ~8x the average annual salary. So a lot of people are asking themselves ‘why even put extra effort in, why hustle, why work’ This could be a big problem for society if too many people check out. Laid off in Dec 2022, still looking for a job tirdpigeon @ Morgan Stanley I am 29F, a software developer with 3 years of experience and was laid off December 2022. I was on H1-B visa and changed the status to H4. I have 3 years of H1-B extension left. I cannot apply for H4 EAD since my spouse’s green card application is still in process. Since the layoff, I was able to clear technical phone screen for Google and Amazon SDE1 OA but my application was paused because of hiring freeze. I have applied to hundreds of roles on LinkedIn, Dice, but I am not getting any callbacks. I am getting calls from staffing company recruiters but they require green card or citizenship or EADs to move forward. I was also able to get to onsite interviews for Amazon SDE2 role. The technical rounds went well but my lack of experience as a senior developer hindered the selection process and I got rejected. I recently got a call from a Meta recruiter but they required 4+ years of full time experience and hung up the call. I am stuck. I now have a 1 year gap in my experience and I am worried about the current opportunities. I am still getting calls from recruiters but my visa status and the lack of enough years of experience is blocking my chances of getting interviews . I am reaching out to the community to understand where I might be lacking and what options I can explore. My mental health is in haywire and I direly need support and guidance. Open to DMs. I have tried consultancies but they are just using me for taking the test and neither getting me actual companies nor are they ready to sponsor and get me a job.
