Getting your street or neighbourhood together for a Christmas party is a great way to build community. And now’s the time to plan one - before everyone’s time is booked out! It’s not hard to do - there are plenty of invitation templates to download from the internet that can be popped into letter boxes to invite your neighbours. You’ll be surprised at how many people love the idea! You can hold it in your nearest park without any cost and have everybody bring something to share. There can even be games for kids. So go ahead! Hi Folks Here are this week’s half price food storage specials. Again on half price special this week are BAKED BEANS - an EXCEPTIONAL addition to your food storage as they have protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre etc and very filling (which is important if you’re trying to fill hungry tummies . They’re also great if the power goes out cos you can eat them cold or just leave the can in the sun and it will heat up by itself - and the ring pull top makes it super easy to open. PICKLED BEETROOT - USE THE LOT!! I posted a video a few weeks ago showing how to pickle your own beetroot. As you know, I’m always keen to maximise the food content in the fruit and vegetables we eat and pickled beetroot is no exception! That dark purple pickling liquid that your beetroot is soaking is not for pouring down the sink! It makes an absolutely DELICIOUS salad dressing that also adds amazing colour to your dishes (as you can see from the picture of the couscous salad we had for dinner this week). You can pour it straight out of the jar and onto your salads with no extra ingredients needing to be added and you can still taste the rich, earthy beetroot in the dressing. So, if you’re pickling your own, remember to keep the liquid after you’ve eaten the beetroot. Why throw away perfectly good (and delicious) food, I say! #becksbasics

GUAVA TREES: Garden or Orchard? A few people have asked me where they should plant their guava seeds. Guavas are an orchard TREE which can grow to 2-3m tall. They need to be planted about 2.5-3m apart. They can also be grown in big pots. So …. Plan for some space to grow your guava trees and enjoy some delicious fruit. They make a great addition to your fruit orchard🍑🍎🍏🍐🍊🍋🍌🍒🥝🥑 #becksbasics
