In-App Translator will be available for Android users soon. You'll be able to enable it in Settings/ Language, choose your language and get the messages translated into your own language in any chats (including group chats) and channels.

New contest for Android developers will be announced this Friday. The task will be to implement certain new features for the Telegram Android app. The winner of this contest may also be able to join the Telegram team. The results of the previous competitions will be published next week.

Official advertisements will soon appear on Telegram channels for the first time. Most users will hardly notice this change - for three reasons: 1. Telegram will not show promotional messages in the chat list, private conversations or groups. Advertising will affect only large channels - services where there is already advertising, and the support of which leads to the greatest costs on the part of Telegram. 2. Personal data will not be used to display advertisements. User privacy is paramount for Telegram. The content of advertising messages will depend only on the topics of the channels in which they are displayed, and not on the personal data of users. 3. Official Telegram advertising messages will be unobtrusive. Only short texts are allowed in them, without external links or photographs. An advertisement may appear only after viewing all new posts in the channel. Telegram channels now contain advertisements that are published by the owners of Telegram channels themselves in the form of ordinary messages. The official advertising messages that Telegram implements will be much more user-friendly. Yesterday Telegram experienced a record increase in user registration and activity. The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day. I am proud of how our team handled the unprecedented growth because Telegram continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users. That said, some users in the Americas may have experienced slower speed than usual as millions of users from these continents rushed to sign up for Telegram at the same time. I ask our existing users to say hi to their newly arrived friends, help them unpack, and let them know what we have in stock. A great news for the Channels/Groups Owners and Admins : New protocols were recently added that will transfer ownership of groups/channels to one of the admins if the owner deletes their account. 🦾 However, if this happened a long time ago, then that would not have happened, and it is impossible to promote a new owner without the old one. twitter.com/telegram/status/1443855595044548608?s=19

Another major Telegram update is out now after having been finally approved by Apple. It is packed with unique features that expand the boundaries of what a messaging app can do. Check them out. This new version of Telegram also contains an important upgrade that will allow our apps to work without interruption. Until now, Telegram used 32-bit values for the identifiers of users and channels. Due to its fast growth, Telegram had been quickly approaching the maximum number of 32-bit IDs, which is about 2.1 billion. That's why for the last 12 months we've been rebuilding nearly all of our apps, storage architecture and scripts to migrate to the 64-bit range (so we can expand to other galaxies without any issues). The latest update is critical to let new users sign up for Telegram and existing users keep creating channels and groups. After updating Telegram, some users may have to wait a minute or two for their chat database to be optimized for 64 bits. We are also investigating a few reports from the Android users that are facing connection issues after updating the app. We are fixing this, but if you don't want to wait, logging out and in again will help.

Flexible Forwarding • Tap the ‘Forward Message’ label above the input field to preview or change how messages will be sent. • Hide or show the original sender’s name. • Remove or keep captions from media messages. • Select and Unselect messages to change which ones will be forwarded. Jump to Next Channel • Scroll through channels you follow without going back to your chat list. • When you reach the bottom of a channel, pull up to go to the next unread channel. Trending Stickers • Discover Trending Stickers above the ‘Recently Used’ section in your sticker panel. • Easily locate your sticker packs — when scrolling the top bar, the thumbnails enlarge to give you a better view. • Know when your chat partner is looking for stickers – their status will show “Choosing a sticker”. • When you enter one emoji in the message bar, sticker suggestions appear – now with larger previews. • Pull upward on the suggestions panel to see more stickers. Unread Comment Counters • See how many unread comments there are when opening a channel's comments. Improved Search for Internal Sharing • Frequent Contacts and Recent Search results now appear when you tap 'Search' while sharing messages inside Telegram.
