[At Peace]
She auditions her hopes and triages her fears,
saying, "I've got to get a grip on me,
held in check by reality."
She tries to hold onto this life tightly,
but just when she thinks her grasp is firm,
it slips through her fingers
like a handful of water... spilling.
And right when she feels like giving up,
she notices a tiny green plant blooming beneath her hands,
nurtured by the dripping water in silence.
Accidental hope strikes;
she gives God the credit.
She is no master of dart or arrow games,
but somehow, she has become the Queen of long shots.
Hey, royalty is here!
She has stopped wrestling with her insecurities daily.
Instead, she has appointed around the clock guards for them,
keeping her insecurities secure.
This is how she has made peace with her shortcomings;
this is how she pursues her far-goings.

[Leveled]
Yes, I have noticed that I have stopped going out of my way for you.
I don't even wait for you on my way anymore.
I just walk down my lane at my own pace
and hope for our paths to briefly catch up every now and then.
No, I don't hate you now;
I just love you less.
And even when I love you less,
you still remain the one I love most.
So here is #onefortheShadows.
And here is #onefortheEchoes.

[Some Times]
Some blues can't be fixed with strong espressos.
Some anxieties in your tummy linger, even after comfort food and warm milk.
Some glooms can't just be switched back by having days off.
You may take a good nap, only to wake up to your doom
standing by your nightstand, waiting impatiently for reunion.
Some soul fatigues don’t relent to a change of scenery,
or retreating to nature for solitude.
Your loved ones’ heartfelt presence,
may not be enough to keep you standing tall.
Even after fervent prayers, you may still feel weak in the knees.
Some sadness is like that.
Some grief is just that adamant.
Some emptiness is that stubborn.
Sometimes, moments unfold like this, an unsettling afternoon that endures.
Some stretch into days, weeks, maybe months, maybe years.
Some sometimes are just not 'some' of the times.
They don’t yield to time’s mercy,
to faith, to loved ones' embrace,
or your best self.
And it is okay.
This is life.
We are all foot soldiers in this battle.
You are not the only one;
you are not alone.

[New Day, Old Me]
Something thrilling happened today,
But you weren't the first I thought to share it with.
Strange.
In fact, no one came to mind at all—
Just like it used to be,
Before our paths intertwined.
It feels odd,
Almost wrong,
But chill; I haven't yet decided if I like it.

Repost from Scribbles
I am a grain of sand;
An eternal promise.
A foreshadow in the universe.
I am my brother’s keeper,
His punching bag when he is tired,
I am my sister’s entertainment late at night;
My twin’s other half,
At my best,
I am the smile on my mother’s face.
I am social justice and liberation,
I am the melanin that flows from the farms,
The green that feeds the world.
The word that saved a life,
I am the birth of a new nation,
Of new hope,
The star to end all wars;
At my best I change the world.
I am the messenger they forget to shoot,
Love’s flawed imitation,
Music played off key,
Awkward hugs of support,
Silence in solidarity.
I am the soldier’s worth,
My father’s pride,
At my best,
I am a worthy heir of my ancestors’ dream.
***
I am the devil’s pawn.
Killer of laughter,
My brother’s murderer,
A waste of labor,
A shadow of civilization,
At my worst,
I eviscerate everything I touch.
I am Moses’ stutter;
Abraham’s doubt,
Gideon’s fear.
I am a cautionary tale,
A miscalculation in the universe;
An anomaly undeserved of life,
A trader of love,
A barterer of faith and virtue,
At my worst I kiss Christ on a Thursday.
I am fear.
I am cowardice.
I am the comfortable caterpillar.
I am greed; I am eternal hunger.
I am extortion personified.
I am potential unbothered.
I am peace undisturbed.
I am a soldier in a spa.
I am a father to doppelgängers;
I perform genocide on a generation.
At my worst,
I live in certainty in wonder of possibilities.
At my worst,
I write poems under a money tree.
At my worst,
I live in a closet full of clothes digging for warmth.
At my worst,
I drown in the nile thirsty.
At my worst,
I laugh without a smile.
At my worst,
I live unburnt.
At my worst,
I gain the world with its applause.
At my worst,
I live life in pink.
At my worst,
At my very worst,
I am my mother’s face in blue.

[🔵]Something Blue[ 🔵]
Like flagbearers raising their homelands' flags at the Olympic opening,
So do I observe strangers from afar, their flags waving.
Minimizing surprises, taking careful heed,
Just gauging the vibes before taking a blind stride.
Different people, yet not so different in their flags—
Many reds... a few greens
And then I saw you waving a blue one.
Well, that was unusual.
Not a red flag for warnings,
Nor a green flag that cheers,
But a blue flag—
Blue like the wide sky, embracing and free,
Blue like the ocean, deep as can be,
Blue like calmness, unhurried,
Blue like gentle, endearing.
I saw you with the blue flag,
And in that moment, I knew you were my homeland,
So on the day we stand at the altar,
I will be that "something old,"
The woman who has waited for you for as long as that long.
And together, we will be that "something new."
Our days ahead will be the "something borrowed,"
And you already know what the "something blue" is gonna be—

Hello, my Friday-ers! 😊🖤✌🏾Here’s some background for today’s poem:'Something Blue'
The "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" rhyme dates back to 19th-century England and remains a cherished wedding tradition. Each item is believed to bring good luck to the bride and her marriage. Something old signifies continuity with the past, while something new embodies optimism for the future. Something borrowed from a happily married friend or relative is thought to transfer their good fortune. Finally, the color blue symbolizes love, purity, and fidelity.
Enjoy the poem!

[In defence of dullness]
I am not great at sports
Not good at video games
I don't even enjoy the group games like "The truth or Dare"
I rather focus on just following the Truth and daring to live, one day at a time
It is safe to say I am a legally boring person
But I am pretty sure I hold one of the top scores in the chrome Dino game,
You know, the pixilated T-rex that appears when your network vexes
The one featuring little Dino jumping over cacti and dodging flying birds
Yeah, that is my favorite game
I am telling you, I don't ask for much
Here is a little Dino, finding its way back home
Leaping over one cactus at a time
And trying over and over again
Even when it all looks lame

[Unsent Letters]
In a world where transformation and personal growth are applauded, where metamorphosis is nature's call
I remained a comfortable caterpillar by choice.
It still puzzles me when I get a swarm of butterflies in my stomach at the thought of you.
I am too old for this.
It sometimes feels like I overstayed my welcome in your life
And now the rent check is piling up.
But if I leave, I am gonna be homeless.
What kind of a fool makes a home out of a rental house?
And at what age exactly does one stop being a fool?
Wait, didn't I just say I was too old for this?
Also, how old is too old?
I wish I could "unlearn" a lot of things in life,
but sadly, they don't have a school for that.
You once said, "As flying is the most imaginative 'freedomest' thing to a man, so could a humble walk be to a bird."
You bug me.
I think I owe you a proper poem.

Sometimes I think it is not fair to ask people to love you for who you truly are when you barely can stand yourself
It is just another poetic sounding crap
Change for the better, don't burden your loved ones.
It is an absolute selfishness to expect your people to see past your past
when all you do is going back wallowing in mud like a pig after being bathed or like a dog returning to its vomit
(I hear your ewwww)
Ain't nobody perfect but there is no glory in choosing to stay broken, confused, wrapped in your biggest mistakes, your regrets glueing you to the floor
Get it together
Pick yourself up
Ain't no amount of human love gonna fix you
If you are in love with your 'brokenness' and 'darkness'
Let us be real
This is just another shallow pathologic trend calling for menders with "saviour complex", and we all know how that ends
Man up(or Woman up😁), mend yourself, live unapologetically
you are your own most consistent responsibility
And always remain grounded in this realisation
that gravity can even sometimes take vacation
Ha
I am just saying,
Do the hard work and make it easy on the people who care for you truly

A friend of mine asked me why I have been posting of 'As Hannah Thinks', and I was like that is because Hannah hasn't been doing much of thinking lately 😁

[ ለእግዜሩ Aka my Lifeline and my Safety net]
Part of adulting is learning a lot doesn't make sense,
You are told to connect the dots relentlessly,
And a line would unveil itself,
The road would appear as you walk on it,
They say it would be worth it.
I don't believe them,
But even if my years are spent doddling connecting points that don't align,
I rest assured in having You as my unwavering Lifeline
I wake before dawn like a diligent fisherman,
Casting my net on the lucky side of the lake,
Hoping to catch a fish or two for the day,
But I always bring my Safety net,
A place to sleep comfortably in an empty stomach if things don't go my way.
I choose to fly high,
Stitching my broken wings as I flop them in the air,
Building the plane as I fly it.
I can almost hear the Wright Brothers screaming...
'You are doing it wrong sister, you are doing it wrong.'
Haha.
They telling me to 'listen to the inner voices,'
But my soul whispers are deafening,
My intuition is a misdirection.
If I follow my inner compass,
I'd be heading right into an abyss.
My heart needs guidance,
A lot doesn't make sense,
And 'You got it all inside of you' is a big part of the nonsense.
I don't lose hope,
I will try, with all my might,
To connect the dots, to learn the art,
To aim for the bigger fish,
To live past one's wish.
But even if at the end of the day it doesn't make sense,
I've got my Lifeline and my Safety net.
