Shree Krishna describes attachment and desire as the primary manifestation of rajo guṇa .Persons influenced by rajo guṇa get engrossed in worldly pursuits of status, prestige, career, family, and home, and look on these as sources of pleasure. The way to break out of this is to engage in karm yog ,i.e. to begin offering the results of one’s activities to God. https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/14/verse/7 Question: What is the primary manifestation of rajo guṇa described by Shree Krishna, and how does it create a trapping cycle for the soul? 🟢 It manifests as physical laziness, which traps the soul in endless sleep and recurring nightmares šŸ”µ It manifests as attachment and desire, which fuel intense worldly activities that in turn create even more desire 🟔 It manifests as spiritual doubt, which causes the soul to constantly switch between different paths of devotion 🟠 It manifests as a lack of memory, which traps the soul because it forgets its past mistakes

*Sattva guṇa* engenders virtue in one’s personality and illuminates the intellect with knowledge. It makes a person become calm, satisfied, charitable, compassionate, helpful, serene, and tranquil. It also nurtures good health. However, *even sattva guṇa is within the realm of material nature (Maya)*. We must not get attached to it; instead, we must use it to step up to the transcendental platform. https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/14/verse/6 Question: Even though sattva guṇa is illuminating, pure, and full of well-being, how does it ultimately act as a bond that chains the eternal soul to material nature? 🟢 By forcing the mind to experience terrifying and painful illusions šŸ”µ By causing the soul to become heavily attached to a sense of happiness and knowledge 🟔 By wiping out the intellect so the person forgets their spiritual identity 🟠 By making a person overly greedy for physical gold and material property

The material energy, Maya, possesses *three guṇas*—goodness, passion, and ignorance. Hence the body, mind, and intellect that are made from prakį¹›iti (Maya) also possess these three modes. Although the soul is divine, *its identification with the body* ties it to material nature. https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/14/verse/5 Question: Which components of the human entity are made from prakį¹›iti and therefore inherently possess the three guṇas? 🟢 Only the physical flesh, bones, and blood of the outer body šŸ”µ The body, the mind, and the intellect 🟔 The eternal soul (puruį¹£h) in its purest, unconditioned state 🟠 Only the subconscious memory and dreams

When God desires to activate the process of creation, he glances at *prakį¹›iti*. It then begins to unwind, and sequentially, the entities *mahān, ahankār, paƱch-tanmātrās, and paƱch-mahābhÅ«ta* are created. Also, with the help of the secondary creator Brahma, the material energy creates various life forms, and God casts the vimukh souls into appropriate bodies, determined by their past karmas. https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/14/verse/3-4 *Question: Which souls are cast into the material world during the creation cycle, and what determines the specific bodies they receive?* šŸ”“ All souls without exception; their bodies are assigned completely at random 🟢 Only perfect, realized souls; they choose their own bodies based on personal preference šŸ”µ Only vimukh souls (those with their backs to God); their bodies are determined by past karmas 🟔 Only souls that have never been to earth before; their bodies are decided by the demigods

When the soul is released from the bondage of material energy, it becomes of the *nature of God*—it acquires divine God-like qualities. https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/14/verse/2 *Question: What does the word sādharmyam mean, and what happens to the soul when it achieves this state?* šŸ”“ It means "complete annihilation," where the soul ceases to exist at cosmic dissolution 🟢 It means "intellectual debate," where the soul questions the material nature šŸ”µ It means "temporary heaven," where the soul enjoys material pleasures before being reborn 🟔 It means "a similar divine nature," where the soul acquires divine, godlike qualities

In this chapter, Shree Krishna elaborates in detail about the *three-fold qualities of material nature* (the guṇas). Chapter 13 begins the Bhagavad Gita’s section on spiritual knowledge (tattva jƱāna). Shree Krishna explains the difference between the field (kį¹£hetra)—the body, mind, intellect, ego, and all material aspects of our personality—and the knower of the field (kį¹£hetrajƱa), the soul. Just as seeds sown in a field determine the harvest, our thoughts and actions shape our destiny. Shree Krishna describes the nature of the field, the soul, and the Supreme Soul, who resides in all beings and is the ultimate knower of every field. By understanding the distinction between matter, the individual soul, and God, one rises above illusion, sees the Divine present in all beings, and attains God-realization.
