True knowledge is to know the *distinction between the material kṣhetra (field of activity) and the spiritual kṣhetrajña (knower of the field)*. Those possessing such discriminative knowledge identify with their spiritual nature as souls and tiny parts of God. Hence, they seek the path of spiritual elevation and attain their ultimate goal of God-realization.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/35
Question: What is the natural shift in identity for someone who possesses this discriminative wisdom, and where does it lead them?
🌊 They identify with their physical achievements and strive for celestial rewards.
🍂 They view themselves as the material body but try to perform good karma.
✨ They stop looking upon themselves as the material body, identify as tiny parts of God, and attain God-realization.
🧘 They reject the world entirely and stop performing any actions in the material field.

Although situated in one place, the sun illumines the entire solar system with its light. The soul, although seated in the region of the heart spreads its consciousness throughout the field of the body.

Question: According to the Śhwetāśhvatar Upaniṣhad, How is the minute, microscopic size of the individual soul (jīva) metaphorically described?
📜 It is equal to the size of a single atom found in a drop of morning dew.
🌱 It is the size of a tiny grain of mustard seed hidden inside the heart.
🍂 It is equivalent to a ten-thousandth (1/10,000th) part of the tip of a hair.
🌟 It changes its physical size constantly depending on the size of the body it enters.

Space holds everything, but yet remains unaffected, because it is subtler than the gross objects it holds. Similarly, the soul is a subtler energy. It retains Its divinity even while It identifies with the material body.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/33
Question: Why does the soul seemingly experience bodily states like sleep, waking, tiredness, and refreshment if it is truly unaffected by the attributes of the body?
📜 Due to the false ego (ahankār) that causes the soul to mistakenly identify with the body.
🌱 Because the soul's divinity temporarily fades away during deep sleep.
🧘 Due to a lack of physical exercise and proper nutrition for the material body.
🌟 Because the Supreme Soul forces the individual soul to feel these changes as a form of karma.

God, situated within the heart of the living being as the Supreme Soul, never identifies with the body, nor is affected by its states of existence. His presence in the material body does not make Him material in any way, nor is He subject to the law of karma and the cycle of birth and death, though these are experienced by the soul.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/32
Question: What is a key difference between the experience of the individual soul and the Supreme Soul while dwelling in the same physical body?
📜 The individual soul experiences the cycle of birth, death, and karma, while the Supreme Soul remains entirely unaffected by them.
🧘 The Supreme Soul must perform rigorous meditation to remain pure inside the body, whereas the individual soul cannot.
🌟 The Supreme Soul eventually merges into the material body at death, while the individual soul does not.
🔮 The individual soul never identifies with the body, whereas the Supreme Soul briefly takes on material qualities.

Upon birth, the bodies of all living beings are created from the material energy, and at death, their bodies again merge into it. When we see the variety of living beings all rooted in the same material nature, we realize the unity behind the diversity.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/31
Question: Why do living beings appear so vastly different from one another if they share the same spiritual reality?
🌊 The distinctions are created by the different types of souls inhabiting them.
🌱 The differences are solely due to the varied environments they live in.
🍂 The distinctions arise from the diverse physical bodies manifested by material energy.
✨ The differences are an illusion because celestial gods do not possess a material form.

The soul is responsible for the actions of a living entity, even though they are performed by the body, mind, and intellect. While working, externally we must put our best efforts as if the results depend upon us; but internally, we must keep in mind that we are the non-doer.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/30
Question: What profound advice did Maharishi Vasishth give to Lord Ram (kartā bahirkartāntarloke) regarding how a spiritual seeker should approach work?
🪵 Give up all physical work entirely and retreat to the forest for silent meditation.
🏹 Externally exert yourself as if everything depends on you, but internally realize yourself to be the non-doer.
🎢 Work only when you feel emotionally inspired, and avoid duties that cause stress.
🔮 Focus completely on the rewards of your actions to stay motivated.

The mind is spontaneously inclined to material pleasures. If we follow the inclinations of our mind, we become degraded into deeper and deeper material consciousness.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/29
Question: How does a spiritual seeker's behavior toward other people change when they truly see the Supreme Soul present in all living beings?
🎭 They look for personal gain and hidden advantages in every relationship.
🧼 They become deeply attached to people who treat them well and harbor intense hatred for those who harm them.
🪷 They maintain an attitude of respect and service, while human distinctions like caste, nationality, and status become completely irrelevant.
🏰 They withdraw entirely from society and refuse to speak to or interact with anyone.

Vedic philosophy stresses that wherever consciousness exists, there must be the presence of the soul. All life forms possess consciousness; they are the combination of the eternal soul ,which is the source of consciousness, and the body ,which is made of the insentient material energy.
https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/13/verse/27
Question: What essential element must be present wherever consciousness exists, proving that even non-moving entities like plants have life?
🪨 A purely mechanical nervous system
✨ The presence of the soul (Ātmā)
🌊 Simple chemical reactions to light
💨 A physical heart and respiratory system

In the Vedic tradition, hearing from the saints has been highly emphasized as a powerful tool for spiritual elevation. When we hear from the proper source, we develop authentic knowledge of spirituality. Besides this, the deep faith of the saint from whom we hear begins to flow into us.
