The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has directed GitHub to remove BitChat/Android/Releases. BitChat is an app that lets you communicate with others using local Bluetooth mesh networks, without depending on mobile networks or servers.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended mobile internet access around Jantar Mantar about 5 times since 17 July with signal jammers, during the protests. Which is why, according to I4C, BitChat is dangerous because it enables communication even during network restrictions and can circumvent lawful restrictions during internet shutdowns.
The I4C issued the notice on 23/07/2026, at 23:16:04, directing GitHub to remove BitChat "within 3 hours". However, GitHub has not taken any action.

| 11 | Google officially drops support for Android 6 Marshmallow after 11 years
As of yesterday, Google has officially pulled the plug on Android 6. This means the OS will no longer receive Play Protect updates and will not be included in the new APK program. Having been supported for exactly 11 years, it goes down as the longest-supported version in Android history. Google Play Services is now only supported on Android 7 and above.

Google also made changes to several other applications yesterday. YouTube now requires Android 10 and above, meaning Android 9 will no longer receive YouTube updates.
