Hungary has ordered 10 members of Russia’s diplomatic mission in Budapest to leave the country after authorities concluded they engaged in activities incompatible with diplomatic status under the Vienna Convention, Foreign Minister Anita Orbán announced Tuesday.
Orbán said the decision was taken to protect Hungary’s security and sovereignty. She emphasized it does not mean a break in diplomatic relations and that Budapest intends to maintain necessary dialogue based on mutual respect and compliance with the rules.
Russia reacted swiftly. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the response to what she called the “Russophobic lobby in Budapest” would be “harsh and painful.” Specific retaliatory steps have not yet been announced.

| 8 |  #BREAKING | 🇩🇪 🇮🇱 — Volkswagen has agreed on key terms to sell its Osnabrück plant. The site is slated to become a defense manufacturing hub in partnership with Israel’s Rafael.
Volkswagen, the German state of Lower Saxony, and investment firm Aurelius Capital reached an agreement on 7 September 2026 for the planned sale of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH. Aurelius would take a majority stake; Lower Saxony would participate as co-owner. The new owners intend to develop the 125-year-old factory into a competence center for security and defense technologies.
An initial “anchor project” involves cooperation with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Plans cover potential production of air-defense systems and components for Germany and Europe, including heavy-duty vehicles, launchers, and generators linked to the Iron Dome. Interceptor missiles themselves are not expected to be manufactured at the site.
Vehicle production at Osnabrück is due to end in summer 2027. The arrangement is intended to keep the majority of the plant’s roughly 1,800 jobs. The deal remains subject to final contracts, corporate approvals, and regulatory review.
