Tata Elxsi has signed an MoU with Sarla Aviation to support the development of Shunya, a six-seater plus one-pilot electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft being developed in India. Tata Elxsi will contribute its aerospace engineering capabilities in areas such as flight-control systems, avionics, software integration, testing, verification, validation and certification, while Sarla Aviation will lead the aircraft design and type-certification process. Shunya is being designed for 300+ km flight range with vertical take-off capability and efficient fixed-wing cruising, and its first flight is targeted within the next 18–24 months. Strategically, this gives Tata Elxsi exposure to the emerging advanced-air-mobility ecosystem, with future applications potentially extending to logistics, air ambulances and defence.

Nifty closed at 23,897 on Friday. With the introduction of the CAS mechanism, the exact closing level of the index has become less meaningful because the last few minutes can see sharp and sometimes distorted movements. What matters more now is the broader direction of the market. If you remember, we changed our view on the markets from neutral to cautious last week. Since then, the market has remained slightly on the weaker side, although there has not been a complete breakdown. We therefore continue to maintain the same cautious stance for now. In terms of strategy, this is a market where investors need to be selective. Focus on sectors where the total addressable market is large, structural tailwinds are strong, and companies have good earnings visibility. Having meaningful exposure to the strongest five to ten sectors can help the portfolio participate even when the broader indices remain in consolidation. At the same time, keep reviewing portfolio performance. If, over a couple of months, none of your holdings is giving you any meaningful opportunity to book profits despite stock-specific rallies happening elsewhere in the market, that is a sign that the portfolio may need some reshuffling. Capital should gradually move from stagnant ideas into stronger businesses and stronger sectors where the probability of earnings growth and price momentum is higher.

U.S. markets had a weak session on Friday, with all three major indices closing in the red. The Dow declined 0.51%, the Nasdaq fell 0.29%, and the S&P 500 slipped 0.38%. U.S. futures are also trading mildly in the red this morning, indicating a cautious start to the week. The macro environment remains slightly unfavourable. The U.S. 10-year bond yield is around 4.78%, while Brent crude oil has moved above $96 per barrel. Both remain important concerns for global equity markets, particularly for emerging markets like India. The Dollar Index is stable around 99. Gold is trading near $4,461, while silver is around $66. Asian markets are showing a mixed trend this morning. Overall, global cues can be considered slightly weak for today. Elevated bond yields, crude oil above $96 and weak U.S. futures are the key negatives. Indian markets are therefore expected to witness a muted to weak start, with crude oil prices and geopolitical developments remaining the most important factors to watch during the session.

In the last 24 hours, the US–Iran conflict has shifted further toward a dangerous maritime confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz. The most important development is Iran’s announcement that it intends to establish a new ā€œexclusion zoneā€ near the Strait, effectively threatening vessels that Tehran considers unauthorised; this follows the US military striking three Iranian oil tankers after Iran fired ballistic missiles toward two US Navy ships. Iran has also claimed attacks on US-linked and other vessels, although the US has disputed at least one Iranian claim that it hit an American unmanned military ship. Meanwhile, shipping traffic through Hormuz has fallen sharply and Brent crude has climbed to around $96–97/barrel as markets worry about prolonged disruption to Middle East oil exports. Iran is warning that any further US attacks will receive a ā€œfaster, heavier and more painfulā€ response, while Washington continues its combination of naval pressure, sanctions and selective military strikes. Overall, the situation has clearly escalated over the weekend: it is increasingly becoming a battle over control of oil shipping rather than a return to large-scale bombing of Iran for now, but the risk of another major escalation remains high if US warships or commercial tankers suffer significant casualties.

ISRO has successfully launched EOS-05, India’s first dedicated imaging satellite in geosynchronous orbit, using the GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota. Weighing 2,367 kg, it is India’s heaviest Earth-observation satellite so far and is designed to provide persistent, high-frequency imaging of large areas using visible, infrared, multispectral and hyperspectral sensors. The satellite can improve monitoring of weather systems, floods, forest fires, agriculture and natural resources, while also strengthening surveillance and situational awareness over India’s land and maritime regions. The mission also demonstrates India’s growing ability to execute complex space missions and could create opportunities for deeper participation by the private space industry.

The government’s ₹37,500-crore incentive scheme to promote coal gasification has so far received no applications from either public or private companies, raising doubts over the commercial viability of its plan to gasify 75 million tonnes of coal and lignite. The application deadline is September 7, and the Coal Ministry says the final number can only be confirmed after the deadline because the process is online. However, the ministry also says several industries have expressed interest in participating, so applications may still come in before the window closes.

India and Belgium have significantly expanded defence and economic cooperation, signing a major defence pact along with several industry agreements and setting a target to double bilateral trade from about $13 billion in FY26 over the next five years. The defence partnership will cover joint weapons production, military training, research and development, exercises and maritime security, with deals involving companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Kalyani Strategic Systems, Kirloskar Oil Engines and John Cockerill Defence for mine-countermeasure vessels, rockets, marine engines and tank systems. India will also appoint a resident defence attachƩ in Brussels, while both countries plan deeper cooperation in semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, ports and investment. The two sides are also pushing for an India-EU free trade agreement, while Belgium will facilitate greater investment into India through a fast-track mechanism and an India-Belgium Business Forum.

This will be positive for broking companies, BSE etc.
