ECX Trades 48.83 Billion Birr in Commodities, Exceeds Target by 167.8%

The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) traded commodities worth 48.83 billion birr during the 2025/26 budget year, exceeding its annual target of 29.1 billion birr by 167.8%, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration.

📈 The figure represents a 79% increase compared with the 2024/25 fiscal year, an increase of 21.63 billion birr.

Key figures from the year: • 14,327 coffee, oilseed and pulse samples received quality assurance certificates • 2,314 vehicles inspected, carrying 38,710 tons of commodities • 17,648 vehicles weighed, carrying 695,073 tons of commodities • ECX prepared quality-grading contracts to introduce opal, cotton, and hides & skins into its trading system. The expansion is part of efforts to diversify commodities traded through Ethiopia's commodity exchange system.
