#NEWS | 🇮🇷 — Iran’s biggest commercial port is effectively empty as the Islamic Republic’s maritime crisis strangles its own trade.

Shahid Rajaee Port historically handles roughly 80–85% of Iran’s container traffic, more than half of its maritime cargo and around 75–81 million tons of goods annually. Before the war, it moved roughly 2 million containers (TEU) per year and operated around the clock. Now its international container berths are reportedly largely idle, with empty quays and cranes standing still. The significance is enormous. Shahid Rajaee is one of Iran’s principal gateways for food, industrial components, consumer goods, metals and non-oil exports. The Islamic Republic spent decades threatening that disruption in Hormuz would choke global commerce. Instead, Iran’s most important commercial port is being choked.
