#lesson12 (twelve) A historical city 1 Durham is a historical city in the north-east of England. 2 There is an eleventh century Norman cathedral. 3 and there is also a majestic castle. 4 There are three old stone bridges across the river. 5 and there is a very famous university. Phonetics ə hɪˈstɔrɪkəl ˈsɪti 1 ˈdɜrəm ɪz ə hɪˈstɔrɪkəl ˈsɪti ɪn ðə nɔrθ-ist ʌv ˈɪŋglənd. 2 ðɛr ɪz ən ɪˈlɛvənθ ˈsɛnʧəri ˈnɔrmən kəˈθidrəl. 3 ænd ðɛr ɪz ˈɔlsoʊ ə məˈʤɛstɪk ˈkæsəl. 4 ðɛr ɑr θri oʊld stoʊn ˈbrɪʤəz əˈkrɔs ðə ˈrɪvər. "An English city" = Une ville anglaise. "There is a castle" = il y a un château. "There are" signifie "Il y a " devant un nom pluriel "There are two bridges" = Il y a deux ponts.

#Conversation11 (eleven) Two holidays (continued) (On the phone) 1- I'm jealous! How's your holiday? 2- Fantastic! Our hotel's right in the centre of the town. 3- It's small, but it's clean and comfortable. 4- The children aren't too happy. 5- Their room's tiny. 5- But the view is super. 6- They're right opposite a night club! Deux vacances (suite) (Au téléphone) 1- Je suis jaloux! Comment se passent vos vacances? 2- Fantastique! That's right! --> C'est bien ça! Il signifie aussi "droite" (contraire:left, gauche) : On your right --> Sur votre droite. Small:peit Contraire: big: grand Tiny: minuscule Contraire: huge: enorme

#Conversation10 (ten) Two holidays (On the phone) 1- How's the weather up there in Durham? 2- Terrible! It's cold, cloudy and wet. 3- It's always rainy here in March. 4- What's it like down in Cornwall. 5- Great. It's hot and sunny. 6- We're really lucky. Translation Deux vacances (Au téléphone) 1- Quel temps fait-il là-haut à Durham? 2-  Affreux ! The rain --> la pluie. Rainy --> pluvieux. Always: toujours (tous le temps, sans cesse ) It's always hot in Cornwall. --> Il fait toujours chaud en Cornouailles. Here: ici, indique l'endroit où se trouve celui qui parle: The weather here is great. Alors que there dénote un endroit éloigné (là-bas ) What's the weather like there?.

#Conversation9 How old are you? 1- Tell me, how old are you? 2- That's a very personal question. 3- But OK, I'm thirty-two. 4- I'm divorced with two sons and a daughter. 5 And how old are they? 6- The boys are ten and eight, and the girl's twelve. 7- Oh dear, I'm too young for you! How old is she? ---> Quel âge à t-elle? She's nine.  --> Elle a 9 ans. To tell --> dire raconter Tell me, are you her son? A personnal computer --> Un ordinateur personnel .
