If you failed today's prelims, cry if you must. Cry for the sacrifices you made. Cry for the years you invested. Cry for the expectations you carried. Cry for the dreams that seem distant tonight. But when the tears stop, remember this: A result has declared that you did not clear an examination. It has not declared that you are a failure. The world may remember ranks and marks. But the people who truly love you remember something else: the child they raised, the friend who stood by them, the son or daughter who kept trying when life became difficult. Do not measure your entire existence by a few hours inside an examination hall. One day you will look back and realize that this exam was a chapter, not the book. A battle, not the war. A road, not the destination. Some of you will clear next year. Some will find success in another field. Some will build businesses, teach students, write books, serve society, raise beautiful families, or discover callings you cannot even imagine today. Life has never been limited to one examination. Tonight, be kind to yourself. The person in the mirror has fought a battle that very few people understand. While others were celebrating festivals, vacations, and weekends, you were studying. While others slept, you revised. While others gave up on themselves, you continued to hope. That effort is not wasted. Nothing that builds character is ever wasted. And if nobody has told you this today: I am proud of you for trying. Because courage is not clearing an examination. Courage is walking into the examination hall despite knowing you might fail. Stand up again. Not because success is guaranteed. Not because the journey is easy. But because there is still life left to live, work left to do, and greatness left to discover. The sun will rise tomorrow. And so will you.

To all those aspirants who couldn’t qualify today… No one can truly understand the pain you’re going through right now. Sometimes, the support we need even from our closest ones feels distant. But it’s okay. You are much more than this exam. A few setbacks cannot define you, and they certainly cannot break you. You are meant to rise to challenge this unfair, judgmental society and to shape a better world. You may miss a thousand opportunities, but trust this life, or God, will always create the thousand and first, just for you. Stay strong, my friends. This isn’t the end. It’s just a bend. We are with you in spirit, in struggle, in strength.

Tensions prevailed at Patna’s Patliputra Railway Station on Sunday after a large crowd of candidates travelling to appear for the Bihar Police Prohibition (Excise) Constable examination gathered at the station in the early hours, leading to disruptions, stone-pelting and damage to property. Police later used force to disperse the crowd and restore normalcy. According to officials, some individuals repeatedly pulled emergency chains, demanded special trains and allegedly prevented candidates willing to travel from boarding trains. Authorities said the unrest escalated when a section of protesters resorted to stone-pelting, prompting intervention by the district police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP). Patna District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan S M said special trains had already been arranged, but alleged that anti-social elements mixed with the protesters and contributed to the violence.

There is a certain type of person everywhere now, especially online. He consumes endless information every day: philosophy, psychology, productivity, spirituality, neuroscience, business, self-improvement, history. He knows a little about everything and deeply experiences almost nothing. His entire identity becomes built around understanding instead of living. He watches videos about confidence instead of speaking confidently. Reads about discipline instead of becoming disciplined. Studies relationships instead of learning how to love. Consumes motivational content instead of taking action. He feels intelligent because he is constantly mentally stimulated. But stimulation is not transformation. Most of the time, knowledge becomes emotional protection. Reality is unpredictable. Reality humiliates. Reality exposes weakness. Books and ideas do not. Inside information, he can continue imagining himself as intelligent, deep, insightful, different from ordinary people. So he remains trapped in preparation. He constantly feels as if he is "becoming" someone, while his real life remains strangely untouched. He develops sophisticated language for problems he never confronts directly. He can explain human behavior beautifully while being unable to handle ordinary discomfort, rejection, uncertainty, loneliness, or risk. He slowly turns life into observation instead of participation. The internet rewards this personality heavily. He receives validation for sounding aware rather than becoming capable. Eventually, he begins confusing self-analysis with growth and information with wisdom. But beneath the intelligence usually exists the same thing: fear. Fear of failure. Fear of embarrassment. Fear of reality answering back. Because action destroys fantasy. The moment he truly acts, he can no longer hide inside potential.

If details of the MoU between US and Iran as reported by Mehr news (see towards the end of the post) are true, then it is clear US has lost the war. However, one can surmise how the understanding will be viewed differently by different countries. 1. Iran: Despite being economically weakened, its military strength degraded considerably, Tehran emerges a winner for surviving the twin onslaught from US and Israel and not conceding much. It has also gained reparations and unfreezing of its assets (figures vary). Also Hezbollah remains well entrenched in Lebanon. 2. US: President Donald Trump was desperate to end the war and cut his losses. In the end, he perhaps kept the rising gas prices and the upcoming mid-term elections in America in mind and accepted most of the Iranian demands. That he has lost face should not be in doubt. 3. Israel will live to fight another day but knives will be out for Netanyahu. 4. Qatar, not Pakistan, finally achieved the breakthrough. 5. India: Overwhelming sense of relief to begin with but in the medium term. New Delhi will have to reassess its West Asia policy, its relationship with US (more adversarial now than ever before) and diversify its energy sourcing. Mehr News: The reported 14-point draft Iran–US memorandum : Immediate and permanent ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon. US commitment not to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs. End of the naval blockade and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. US military withdrawal from areas surrounding Iran. Suspension of oil-related sanctions and restoration of Iran’s access to its revenues. $300 billion in reconstruction plans/funding from the US and allies. 60 days of negotiations toward a final agreement focused on Iran’s nuclear program and broad sanctions relief. Iran reaffirms it will not develop nuclear weapons under the NPT. No new US troops or sanctions during negotiations. Release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets during the negotiation period. -Nitin A. Gokhale

The statement “Geography is one of the biggest forms of luck in life” captures a truth that most successful people prefer to ignore. We like stories in which intelligence, hard work, and determination explain success because such stories are comforting. They place human beings at the center of their own achievements. Reality is far more influenced by randomness and hidden variables than we admit. Geography is perhaps one of the largest of those hidden variables. Before a person makes a single decision, he is already born into a set of probabilities. A child born in a peaceful country with functioning institutions, clean water, good schools, and economic opportunities begins life with advantages that have nothing to do with merit. Another child born amidst war, corruption, or chronic instability faces obstacles that no amount of personal virtue can fully erase. Neither child earned these conditions. They inherited them through chance. Geography is one of the most invisible forms of that luck because it becomes normal to those who possess it. A successful entrepreneur in a stable country may attribute his success entirely to hard work while overlooking the legal system, infrastructure, security, and economic environment that made his efforts productive. What appears as merit is often merit operating within favorable circumstances. This does not mean that geography determines everything. Within the same city, village, or nation, people achieve vastly different outcomes. Human agency still matters. The mistake is not in recognizing effort but in ignoring the environment within which effort operates. Geography sets the odds; it does not dictate the outcome. Not all advantages produce strength. Sometimes difficult environments create resilience, adaptability, and resourcefulness. A person raised amid uncertainty may develop skills that someone from a perfectly protected environment never acquires. Excessive comfort can produce fragility just as excessive hardship can destroy people. Thus, favorable geography is not an unconditional blessing, nor is unfavorable geography an absolute curse. Many commentators and elites speak as though success is entirely self-made. They lecture others about discipline and personal responsibility while ignoring the immense geographical and institutional advantages they inherited. Such people mistake favorable starting conditions for personal superiority. The deeper lesson is one of intellectual humility. Geography reminds us that life is not a perfectly fair competition. People do not begin from the same starting line, and pretending otherwise distorts our understanding of success and failure. Recognizing the role of geography does not diminish achievement; it simply places achievement in its proper context.
