A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Josh Neman at the University of Southern California, to study the molecular basis of tumor microenvironment and brain metastasis. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, have a PhD or PhD/MD degree, a strong background in cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, mouse models of cancer, and metabolism and have published in internationally recognized journals. The Jones Laboratory at the Boston University School of Medicine is currently seeking postdoctoral applicants for exciting projects investigating tissue-specific mechanisms of tumor-induced immunosuppression. The overall goal of our research is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that contribute to the progression of cancer metastases. The primary responsibilities of the postdoctoral associate are to independently design and execute research experiments to study mechanisms of immune escape and suppression in the metastatic tumor microenvironment, including characterization and targeting of immune suppressive cell types and pathways. Candidates with a strong research track record, background in immunology and cancer biology, as well as experience with animal models are preferred. Postdoctoral research positions are available in Trojanowska laboratory in the Arthritis and Autoimmune Diseases Center to investigate pathogenesis of scleroderma, a complex autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation, vasculopathy and skin and organ fibrosis. The current investigations focus on the mechanisms of vascular disease using novel transgenic mouse models that recapitulate vascular and lymphatic defects observed in scleroderma patients. The second area of research include investigations on the mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension (PAH) focusing on the cross-talk between endothelial and smooth muscle cells.Required Skills We seek highly motivated and qualified candidates with a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD who will be responsible for designing and implementing experimental protocols. Candidates with a strong background in cell and molecular biology or related fields demonstrated by the first author peer-reviewed publication are encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas J. Gardella in the Endocrine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). This is a full-time position with an affiliated Research Fellow appointment proposed at Harvard Medical School (HMS). PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct investigations into the pharmacologic actions of novel PTH analogs being developed as candidate new therapies for diseases of bone and calcium metabolism. A key analog to be studied is LA-PTH, a unique PTH analog that interacts with a specific conformation of the PTH receptor resulting in a greatly prolonged duration of action despite having only a short circulating half-life. LA-PTH is being developed for treatment of hypoparathyroidism. Studies in hypoparathyroid rat models will examine the efficacy of LA-PTH in normalizing serum calcium levels, while assessing the impact on bone metabolism, renal function, and cardiovascular parameters (examination of serum and urine calcium/phosphate levels, bone biomarkers, analysis of bone structure by histology and micro-computed tomography, and CV telemetry). Cell-based in vitro studies of PTH ligand interactions with WT and mutant PTH receptor variants will complement the animal studies. The overall program is highly translational, expected to have significant publication potential, and will lead to improved understanding of basic biological mechanisms as well as potential new therapeutics. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • The candidate will have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in the biomedical sciences, with experience in whole animal research techniques and animal models, pharmacology, molecular/cell biology, and biochemistry. • This position offers excellent opportunity to learn and apply skills relevant to physiological research, drug development, GPCR pharmacology, endocrinology, and the genetic causes of disease. Qualified candidates should be able to work independently as well as in a group environment. WORKING CONDITIONS: • The environment is a well-equipped, well-staffed research laboratory. • Work hours flexible and generally conducted over a forty-hour workweek. • Studies will be conducted with rodent disease models, as well as cultured cells • No direct patient contact will occur. Postdoctoral research position is available for the research on the prefrontal function for higher cognition and its dysfunction in psychiatric illnesses in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine. Research in our group (PI: Hyojung Seo, PhD.) focuses on, 1) cortico-striatal mechanisms of causal inference in learning and decision-making, 2) prefrontal regulation of motivation and its dysfunction in depression, 3) potential roles of the prefrontal NMDA-receptor in prefrontal memory and regulation of behavior. To address these questions, we use an array of techniques including electrophysiology, pharmacological/ electrical circuit manipulation in non-human primate (NHP) model as well as computational modeling on behavior and neural circuits in collaboration with computational neuroscientists. We actively explore new techniques such as high channel-count microelectrode array and PET-guided chemogenetic manipulation of neural activity. We are also collaborating with human neuroimaging group (PI: Ifat Levy, PhD.), which provides an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary approach to understanding prefrontal mechanisms of higher cognition and its translation to human psychiatry. Ideal candidates would have previous experience in animal training, electrophysiology and computational modeling.
