Is there a subreddit that's like this but specific to the UK?
I do find this subreddit quite useful but I'm wondering if there's one that's focused on the UK so I can see what my dipshit government are trying to do.

Hotspot monitoring?
Currently sitting in a Lowe’s parking in my car and a recorded voice just come over a loudspeaker that said ‘ 24/7 hot spot monitoring ( several words I missed) enforced by local law enforcement). This is a low crime area during normal business hours. The announcement was made only once unlike any other projected amplified announcement I’ve even heard- they’re always repeated at least once.
Anyone know what this might be about?

The UK’s New Under-16 Social Media Ban Will Cause More Harm Than It Prevents
This month, politicians in the UK pushed forward with plans to eviscerate privacy and free speech on the internet by announcing a ban on social media for users under 16 that is set to take effect in Spring 2027.
The UK government continues to falsely characterize this policy as a necessary response to growing concerns about online harms for young people. In reality, much like the Online Safety Act, it will cause more harm than it will prevent.
Users of all ages are burdened with proving their age before accessing content, with social media platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and X included in the ban. There remains no reliable, privacy-preserving method of verifying the age of every internet user and methods vary from one platform to the next.
Young people will not simply be protected from being contacted by adults or endlessly scrolling—they’ll also lose access to educational videos on YouTube, local events on Facebook, and potentially cut off from distant friends and family.
Public policy must be effective, proportionate and respectful of fundamental rights. Young people deserve better than a policy built on panic, and all internet users deserve a safe and free internet. A social media ban generates headlines, but it will not solve the problem.
For more information, including a brief history of age-gating in the UK, you can read the entire blog here.

KeepAndroidOpen from India
https://keepandroidopen.in/
Just saw the India version of keep android open. Good initiative from the Free Software Movements in India
India has one of the world's largest Android user bases and a huge community of independent developers, students, FOSS contributors, and startups. Because of that, changes affecting sideloading or independent app distribution have an outsized impact here. Some Indian digital rights and free software advocates have started discussing the campaign in that context, arguing that it raises questions about platform openness.

Should I just delete reddit?
I'm now required to give either my face or personal I'd, which sounds really bad. I especially don't want to give my ID, but when I took the selfie, it said that my face didn't match me age. Is this just going to be a temporary thing, or will it be here permanently?

Privacy-friendly screen blockers for macOS?
Hi all, does anyone know of a privacy-friendly screen or app blocker for macOS?
I like the idea of ScreenZen: adding friction before opening distracting sites or apps, making me pause, set intentions, and so on. But I’d feel more comfortable with an open-source tool, or at least one that is very clear about what it monitors.
My main concern is that blockers have to watch what apps or sites I open, and I don’t want that data leaving my device or being used for analytics.
Any recommendations for open-source or local-only macOS blockers?

Bypassing Face ID/ID verification
Could you just make a wax dummy head and a fake ID to bypass all this BS? Seems like a simple workaround

Websites for privacy settings instructions?
For the people around me I've become the source of information regarding any privacy settings for all sorts of accounts, Facebook, Instagram, Samsung account, e-mail accounts, etc. I'm grateful people are coming to me but sometimes it gets very time consuming to explain everything to them. Especially when companies try harder and harder to bury any settings.
I was wondering if there are any websites that provide up-to-date instructions for these kind of settings. If not I'm considering making one myself for all the big companies and keeping it updated with all the stupid shit companies come up with. I'd love to hear if there are any out there already.

What's happening on the 29 june is scaring me a lot
I know a lot of people might have already posted about this
I'm not someone very into technology and stuff
I was wondering if this is like definitive ?
Only 4 country voted against it, and if Eu start, what will stop others countries in the world
I'm actually in Eu, in a country that voted for the mass scan
And I'm a bit panicking because everything they say about it is messy
If someone had the time to explain to me if there's hope for this , what can we do against it and how it'll affect my usual use of social media?

Ai recording teams meetings video
Entire meeting recorded in video and sent to everyone including the CEO today and I had no idea until it was sent to me after. I feel exploited. This is Canada, anyone have any experience with responding to this? I'm thinking of just not having my camera on from now on, cry and moan though they might.

Privacy win and loss within few days of each other
Thought this was the most appropriate flair
Hiya.
Just felt like sharing this with people who care. Sorry if it's a dumb post or whatever
The win: got my mum to agree to communicate with me on signal bc I wanna rid myself from meta. Fun fact: she said she tried to switch to signal after she found out about meta's dirty business practices but since no one else switched with her she came back to watsap.
Loss: my mp is into age verification just like the rest of them. Sent her a letter, she said she is still voting for that anyway. My girl literally skated past my concerns like it's nothing.
She herself said that she got hundreds of displeased messages about this. Yet she is still going ahead with it 😔

KIDS set to voted on as soon as Monday
https://docs.house.gov/floor/Default.aspx?date=2026-06-29
A suspension means that debate is limited and ammendments are not allowed on floor vote.
Call and email your representatives, you can use badinternetbill.com or 5calls.org to do so.

KOSA to be voted on in the House next Monday
hi everyone, as you all know age verification/identity verification is a major threat to speech, information, and privacy as a whole.
KOSA has been put in a package called the KIDS Act, which has 19 bills (a majority which are age/identity verification bills). it's being voted on in the House on Monday at 6:30 pm.
there is already a lot of controversy around this bill due to KOSA, many pro-KOSA orgs not liking the House version taking out the "duty of care" portion (which makes this 'weaker' on censorship) but many anti-KOSA orgs also not liking the other 18 bills that are pro-age verification. TLDR; this entire package is a mess and should be stopped from moving forward
actions to take:
call your House member! use either [https://www.badinternetbills.com/](https://www.badinternetbills.com/) or call 202-224-3121 to connect.
sign the **open letter** against the KIDS Act. i'm part of a discord server that has been fighting this for 5 years and we are planning on sending this directly to the House and Senate
and lastly, spread the news!! this vote is imminent and we need as much backlash as possible. contact influencers, people who are popular, idk just anyone who could help spread this!

If any website forces you to use your ID for age verification What would you do?
Personally, I'll let them delete my account, and I won't be using that website again. But if it's my two Gmail accounts, I'll give it because they're linked to my important things, like my bank and other government things that I need

Reddit doesn't let me access or delete my account without ID or photo verification now in the EU.
How can it be that I cannot do ANYTHING without verifying, including accessing my account settings?? I open the app and NOTHING comes up except the popup to verify with Persona and I cant do anything else. At all. This has got to be many levels of illegal junk, I'm using a VPN now.
Can I do anything about this? Yes I know deleting reddit and all that, but how can I email them about the concerns of all kinds of violations of privacy and not only that. It just seems weird to me that all we can do is leave reddit.
