Do Safe Exam Browser settings carry systemwide, or can it be limited to the user account? Hello! I know this may sound fish considering I'm a student but our professor mandated SEB for online quizzes. However, I do not have any spare electronics to install SEB on and have to basically install it on my personal machine, which I find a little terrifying despite reading multiple times that it is, in fact, safe to use. I constantly worry about being spied on and some configurations might present errors that could, potentially, lock the system up. I'm on board with it and don't see any problem with it in terms on what it's designed for, but it does become somewhat convoluted in terms of installing it on personal machines whose purposes are beyond educational. So I just decided to make a new user account on my Mac install, but even then, I'm sure it may look up files that are lower-level and are beyond the sandbox of each user account. Having trouble getting your data out of a UK organisation? Here's my solution My first post here, be kind. In the UK, it's becoming increasingly difficult to get your data out of organisations. GDPR and the Data Protection Act give you the right to get out of them a copy of your data but organisations are getting worse at complying. Unfortunately, the ICO - our regulator - has also become a bit useless. They now require a certain (undisclosed) threshold of complaints against an organisation before they'll get involved or they need to see a certain level of (undisclosed) harm to the data subject. I've had this problem and posted in r/GDPR about this but, funny thing, the sub seems to be full of data controllers, not members of the general public, and they attacked my unreasonable expectations of getting my data out of a local council with the statutory 3 months. However, given this council has violated the law, I'm taking them to court. I post below some tips for anyone else considering this. Note: This is not official, legal advice, so treat it as such. First, make sure your data controller has actually broken the law. Use ChatGPT or whatever to run your circumstances by the engine. Create a Google Drive or some other online repository. Upload all your data, your original SAR, copies of all emails, your complaint letter / other comms, copies of the data controllers policies, links to relevant pages on their website etc. Also, spend some time writing up some notes for the AI engine. It'll be worth the effort later on, trust me! Then give the AI access to all of that and get some advice on how best to proceed. Second, in my particular case, a short deadline meets the pre-action protocol (PAP) because of particular circumstances, but if you're intending to sue them, spend some time reading the PAP and get the AI's advice on this. You'll probably have to give them a week or two initially, then an LBC giving them another 2 weeks. Don't rush, it could count against you in court. Third, use the AI to prepare your claim, your Witness Statement, your draft order, to help you fill in the necessary forms etc. What you did in step 1 with loading data to an online folder will now save you tons of time. Fourth, file the claim and pay the court fee. Don't forget to include a claim for costs! Fifth, be patient. It takes a while for a claim to progress through the court system. But, stick with it. Even if the data controller releases your data, don't pull the claim - you still have costs to recover if nothing else. Update the court and revise your draft order making it easy for the court to take a decision "on the paper" (without a hearing) to award you costs. Sixth, whether you post online, in Reddit, or elsewhere, about how you won against a difficult and well funded adversary, is up to you. https://redd.it/1vchh41 @r_privacy

Can people see the specific results of the Australian Census? Might be the wrong subreddit but I need to ask. Me and my Roommate have just received the Census, but it’s asking questions about Sexuality that we don’t think we can answer honestly. We live in a very small town. As in, official population is less than 75 and two responses as anything ”queer” will be very visible and very quickly lead back to us if the general public can see the results for the specific town. In the same boat, we dont want to lie. These Census‘s exist for a reason, and we _know_ for a fact theres at least one other queer person in our community who is a minor and can’t make this decision for themselves. We don’t want to misrepresent our town, we are members of it still and to intentionally lie feels almost like fraud. I don’t know. It’s our first time being old enough to respond to these ourselves. Meta glasses infrared camera? Does anyone know if the meta glasses use an infrared camera or just a normal one? I'm trying to find ways to protect my privacy from cameras while in public without drawing too much attention from people. My main concerns are being used to train ai or ​being taken advantage of by a content creator. So I'm trying to figure out if the meta glasses be defeated with anti-infrared measures like ir lenses and reflective material. Privacy-Respecting Alternatives to Paypal? This has been asked many times on the sub already, but I haven't found any alternatives. No one asking had the same threat model as I do as well. I am not exactly worried about the government seeing anything, and understand that it's more of a necessity when it comes to currency anyway. I'm mainly looking for alternatives to Paypal's P2P payments and just paying online in general. I'm hoping these alternatives do not share/sell data to third parties. That is my main concern. how does voice verification work? Banks are bypassing traditional ways of IDing you when you call by using voice recognition. For those who haven't experienced it, before being given any prompts or speaking w/a live agent on their customer service line, a recording gives you a sentence to repeat, and after you've done so, you're passed (or not) through their verification and on to the next step. How does this work when voices can easily be cloned if a person has videos online with their speaking voice? What if a person has laryngitis or a cold when they call their bank - will the system not recognize their voice? Are our voices stored, and if so where? When did we consent to this? I'm assuming they acquired enough data to feed into the AI from our recorded conversations, which by the way, you cannot opt out of. But people's voices change from day to day because of weather, sinuses and other random things, and they change over time because of age... and people can acquire an accent(or lose an accent) if they live in a place long enough... is any of this taken into consideration? https://redd.it/1vb1bu1 @r_privacy

IMDB obtained my personal information without my consent? I just visited IMDB, I was looking at an artist's page. I didn't sign up, didn't log in, didn't agree to anything. Almost immediately, I get an email saying "welcome to IMDB". It's not a coincidence. I never gave them my email. I visit IMDB and I see I'm logged in, with a username that uses my first name and last name's initial. Again, I did not give them this info. The account said it was created 2 minutes ago. Are Opticians getting kick backs for Meta Glasses??? Went to get an eye exam and new glasses recently and they really did a hard sell on Meta Glasses even after I told them that I coach high school sports and will be in locker rooms. They said they only record when you ask them to and didn't see a problem with me wearing them around a school and sport team.
