Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT) "So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, and do not panic before them. For the Lord, your God, will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Many times in our lives, we face what we metaphorically call "mountains," and in these challenging seasons of overcoming difficulties, achieving goals that seem daunting, or navigating through complex situations, we're often tempted to lose hope. In the same way, we find, in the context of today's verse, the Israelites on the verge of crossing the Jordan River, trembling with fear of the belligerent nations that await on the other side, in the land the LORD had promised them. But in the face of their fears, Moses delivers a powerful, encouraging message to the people that resonates with us today. "So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, and do not panic before them. For the Lord, your God, will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” We're called to be strong and courageous and to not fear or panic when we face adversity. This is not a mere suggestion but a divine directive to summon the strength that lies within us. Yet, the source of our strength is not found in our own might or abilities. Instead, it is rooted in the unwavering presence and guidance of the Almighty God, who walks beside us. Not only so, but we're assured that the LORD, our God, will go before us and pave the way for our success. This symbolizes God's proactive involvement in our lives, preparing the way for us and ensuring that we're not left to navigate life's difficulties on our own. With God leading the way, we can have confidence that we will overcome any obstacle that comes our way. But the promise doesn't end there; Moses adds, "He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” In our human relationships, we often experience disappointment and abandonment. People come and go when things get tough and leave scars on our hearts. But God's promise is different: He will never leave us or let us down. By His Holy Spirit, He's ever present in times of need and loneliness. Today we're reminded that we can always rely on God's faithfulness and steadfast love in the midst of challenging circumstances; we're never alone, and God is always with us every step of the way. We might not be crossing vast seas or facing giant nations today, but let us draw strength from the idea that, just as God led the Israelites through their challenges, He will continue to lead and guide us through ours. May we live with faith and courage, anchored in the knowledge that we are not alone in our journey and that the God who promises to be with us is faithful and steadfast. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, we come before you with hearts filled with gratitude for your unchanging love and faithfulness. As we meditate on today's verse, grant us the wisdom to trust in your goodness and to rely on the assurances found in your Word. Teach us the discipline of patiently waiting, knowing that your timing is perfect. Strengthen us, Lord, as we navigate the challenges of life, and may our hope in you be a source of enduring strength, unwavering endurance, and abiding comfort. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. In the book of the Prophet Isaiah, there are many such exhortations from God to the nation of Israel, such as today's verse. This verse fits into a larger passage in the Prophet's Book, where God speaks to the comfort and hope that He provides for His beloved people. While the immediate context of today's verse may be directed towards the Israelites, the principle conveyed can be applied to us Christians who seek renewed strength and endurance through our faith in God. But the Scriptures make it clear that yes, even though renewed strength and supernatural endurance can be attained in God alone, this is only made available to those who hope in the LORD. So in today's devotional, we'll explore what the Scriptures mean by "those who hope in the LORD," or, in other words, what it means to put our hope in God. Putting our hope in the LORD, as mentioned in Isaiah 40:31, is a central theme throughout the Bible. It involves us trusting in God's character, relying on His promises, and finding our full confidence in Him rather than in our own strength or circumstances. But how? Trust in God's character; It begins with a deep trust in God's nature. This includes acknowledging His love, faithfulness, sovereignty, and wisdom. Understanding that God is good and that His plans for us are for our welfare and betterment (Jeremiah 29:11) This forms the foundation of our hope in Him. Rely on God's promises; The Bible is filled with promises from God. Hoping in the LORD involves anchoring our expectations on these promises. As we read and meditate on God's Word, we find assurance in His commitment to guide, protect, and provide for His people. For example, we're promised renewed strength and endurance in today's verse, which becomes a source of hope for those who trust in God. Wait on God; Other versions of today's verse say, "But those who wait on the LORD..." (NKJV). Biblical hope often involves waiting patiently for God's timing. Impatience leads to anxiety and doubt, but those who hope in the Lord understand that God's plans unfold in His perfect timing. They trust that God's timing is always right and that He knows what is best for them. Waiting on God also requires us to surrender control and rely on His wisdom and guidance. We can always find peace and confidence that God is working all things together for our good and His ultimate glory. Psalm 27:14 encourages us to "wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart." In summary, putting our hope in the Lord goes beyond mere optimism or wishful thinking. It's a deep, abiding trust in God's character, a reliance on His promises, and an active, patient waiting for His guidance. As Christians, our hope is anchored in the unchanging nature of God, and it becomes a source of strength, endurance, and comfort in every season of life, regardless of what we face.

Verse: Mark 4:25 NLT Topic: Truth about Hearing “Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”” Jesus is speaking about different reactions people have upon hearing His teaching. Mark 4:1–20 describes people who have hardened hearts, shallow personalities, greed, or faith in Jesus and a willingness to listen. The "more" that will be added is spiritual wisdom. Jesus is saying that if we approach His teaching as if we were carrying a big basket, our basket will be filled with understanding and enlightenment. Jesus' disciples embody this when they stay to learn when the miracles are over and ask for insight into the parables (v10). We have a lot of choice and control over our Christian life. Knowledge of the kingdom of God increases and decreases exponentially. If we bring a large vessel to be filled with knowledge, it will be filled to overflowing. If we bring a small one, it will be filled initially, but then lost (v25). Our "measure" consists of our time, attention, and submission to Jesus' words, in the larger sense—consistency. Personal devotions, regular church attendance, and intentional application of Scripture in our lives are parts of a large measure. The more we ask for, the more the Holy Spirit will work in our lives, above and beyond the details of what we have learned. It is our choice to ask for and seek wisdom. Prayer: Father God, Lord of heaven and earth, help me hear. Even more, dear Father, create in me a hunger for hearing the truth of Jesus. Open my heart to your message. Strip from me the barriers that would keep me from being attentive. I want my life to be shaped by your words. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
