In a long-term dump trend, market makers (MMs) want to unwind their high-price short-leverage positions. They use market (taker) orders to push the price up quickly. When the price pumps, their Long Stop-Limit orders get triggered and they let them fill until the entire batch is executed. Once filled, they start closing those newly triggered long positions, causing the price to dump again. At that point, liquidity is nearly drained, leaving no strength for further downward moves. Naturally, the next broader trend remains bearish. After the dump, price often returns to the MAX PAIN zone (in Smart Money Concepts, this is typically the FVG zone) because retail Short Limit orders (filled when MMs closed their longs) are continually getting closed That’s where you can often find high-probability opportunities This is the true nature of Price Action, reading the behavior of price, not guessing candles
