| 2 | Happy Father's Day.
I wanted to give a quick shout out to all the dads out there today. Every last one of you.
If I had to point to the one thing in my life that's been the most transformational, the most meaningful... it'd probably be becoming a father. It's a big responsibility, and I take it seriously. I love my kiddos.
And I had a great role model in my own dad.
He taught me the value of hard work. Consistency. Just showing up through it all, because that's what you do as a father, as the head of a household. And he did it well. He worked quite a bit when I was younger, but I know exactly why he did it. He was providing for his family. And he provided well. We never went without.
That work ethic got passed right down to me. I just really honor the guy. We're closer now than we've ever been.
He's a funny man too. Always got a dad joke loaded up. I think he actually keeps a whole repertoire of them written down in files somewhere, and he'll even go research new ones. Sure enough, this morning in our family chat I asked if he had a good joke for today. And he busted it out almost immediately.
What type of test does a dad take on Father's Day?
A pop quiz.
Classic. Pure dad joke. He's a good man, and I honor him today.
And I honor all of you fathers right alongside him.
There's another father I want to honor today too. Mollie's husband, Elias. He's a hard-working mexicano, one of the behind-the-scenes guys over at Sovereignty Ranch. He and Mollie actually met when he was working for her in the kitchen at one of her restaurants. They fell in love, got married, built a family, five kiddos. Every time I head down to Mollie's I get to know him a little more. I hear about his hometown back in Mexico. I get to watch him work. And man, speaking of hard-working fathers... he is one. Holding it down behind the scenes.
Come to think of it, my dad was kind of a behind-the-scenes guy too. A lot of dads are. There's just this quiet knowing that this is the job. You hold it down. You work. You provide. You show up for your kids. You do your best to build a foundation of stability underneath them.
I've come up short on that here and there myself. I'm constantly dialing it in. But the work never stops, and the showing up is most of it.
