Mica is an important non-metallic mineral used mainly in electrical industry as it has great insulating properties, can withstand high voltage and has low power loss factor. It is obtained from muscovite, biotite and phlogopite ores.

◇ Andhra Pradesh – largest producer of mica. Micabelt of Nellore is about 100km long. Also obtained from Khamma in Telangana and Krishna, west Godavari and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
◇ Rajasthan – Main mica belt of rajasthan extends from Jaipur to Udaipur.
◇ Jharkhand and Bihar - Mica in Jharkhand and bihar is found in a belt extending from eastern part of Gaya through Hazaribagh, Giridh and Munger to Bhagalpur.
◇ Gujarat – Banaskantha, Vadodra and Sabarkantha.
◇ Tamil nadu – nilgiri, Coimbatore, salem and Tiruchirapalli.
◇ Chattisgarh – Bilaspur, bastar and Surguja.

Gold is precious metal used for making ornaments.
□ DISTRIBUTION
1. Karnataka -
◇ Karnataka stands first in the reserves and production of gold in India.
◇ It is obtained mainy from the kolar, dharwar, hassan and Raichur districts.
◇ Some gold deposits have also been found in Belgaum, bellary, Chikmaglur, Gulbarga, MP and Shimoga districts.
◇ Kolar Gold mines – mining here started first in 1871. Also called champion series.
◇ Hutti gold mines – historic mine in which production started in 1902.
2. Andhra Pradesh
◇ Second largest coal producer. Main deposits are found in Ramagiri. In addition in Chitoor and Kurnool.
□ PLACER or ALLUVIAL GOLD
◇ The gold obtained from the sand and sedimentary deposits of the rivers is known as Placer gold.
◇ Placer gold is found in Subarnarekha river of Jharkhand.
◇ Placer gold is also found near Lowa in Singhbhum districts and some other parts of chota nagpur Plateau.

It is not a specific mineral but a rock consisting mainly of hydrated aluminium oxides. It is clay like substance which is Pinkish, Whitish or reddish in colour depending on iron content.

Lead does not occur free in nature. it is obtained from Galena which is found in association with Limestone, Sandstones and calcareous slates.
