| 2 | It is all your desires that you see, when you think. But when your mind is quiet, without desire, you are complete and as wonderful as you have always been.
~ Papaji | 98 |
| 3 | How long should inquiry be practised?
As long as there are impressions of objects in the mind, so long the inquiry βWho am I?β is required. As thoughts arise they should be destroyed then and there in the very place of their origin, through inquiry. If one resorts to contemplation of the Self unintermittently, until the Self is gained, that alone would do. As long as there are enemies within the fortress, they will continue to sally forth; if they are destroyed as they emerge, the fortress will fall into our hands.
- Sri Ramana Maharshi | 101 |
| 4 | Until your devotion for God and awareness of Him become complete, don't rest; don't give in to sleep when you should be meditating. Never give anything preference before God! His love is the greatest love there is. So long as you let other things come first, He will wait. But your delay may be too long, and your suffering may be great. Don't procrastinate. Be certain in the sincerity of your conscience with Him Don't rest, don't give up until you can see Him with your own eyes, or feel Him in your heart.

| 9 | The sense of duality, which is a barrier to true love, must prevail so long as the apperception of Truth has not occurred. Once individuality is surrendered, there is only total Love.

| 11 | Some like devotion, whereas others like wisdom and insight.
What does this mean? The self-same bliss of Brahman alone exists. Man cannot give up his taste for the joys to which he is addicted; he cannot conceive the possibility of still greater joys, for he has a predilection for the joys he knows.
Those who understand that even the delight derived from the visions of the deities and such experiences is not eternal and that there is a distinct eternal Bliss which abides within oneself, alone take to the path of KnowIedge and their mind is ever busy with reasoning and inquiry until the dualistic concept held by them finally disappears. These are real Jnanis.
So also are they real Bhaktas who do not pay heed to anything but God, think of Him alone, and do not even cast a glance at the enjoyment of sense-objects. Those are not real Bhaktas who pray to God to keep their enjoyments intact:
it is such people who argue about the merits of knowledge and devotion.
Perfect knowledge will soon dawn for those who give up everything and meditate on God alone, not wanting anything else.
But salvation is not to be obtained quickly by those who pray to God for enjoyments; however, this state of theirs will not last. As they are far away from the Self they are unable to see anything but enjoyments.
The closer one comes to the Self, the more one renounces.
What is enjoyment? It is to like that state in which one already is. What is renunciation? It is not to like that state in which one already is.
The world seems to be real only if the Self seems to be distant; as soon as the Self is felt to be near it is realized that the world is unreal. Only as long as the mind remains unsteady will duality appear. The steadier the mind, the deeper the feeling of unity.
- Brahmajna Ma | 206 |
| 12 | Contemplate life as infinite, undivided, ever present, ever active, until you realize yourself as one with it. It is not even very difficult, for you will be returning only to your own natural condition.
~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj | 203 |

| 14 | So long as one's real home has not been found, suffering is inevitable. The sense of separateness is the root-cause of misery, because it is founded on error, on the conception of duality. This is why the world is called duniya - based on duality.
What is wanted is genuine Awakening, an awakening after which nothing remains to be attained. . .
To become fully conscious is not enough, you will have to rise beyond consciousness and unconsciousness. That which Is has to shine forth.

| 18 | When the mind is kept away from its worries, it becomes Silent. If you do not disturb this Silence and remain in it, you will realize that it is permeated with a light and love you have never known, and yet you recognize it immediately as your Very Nature.
After you have gone through this experience, you will never be the same again, the rebellious mind may break your peace and destroy your vision, but it is destined to return to Silence, as long as the effort is maintained, until the day all ties are broken, the illusions and attachments come to an end and life becomes extremely concentrated on The Present.
~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj | 257 |
| 19 | There is no such thing as peace of mind. Mind means disturbance; restlessness itself is mind. You say you want to pacify your mind. Is he, who wants to pacify the mind, himself peaceful?
The self does not need to be put to rest. It is peace itself, not at peace. Only the mind is restless. All it knows is restlessness, with its many modes and grades.
Nisargadatta Maharaj | 387 |
