| 5 | One question that people are often found discussing is
“How to make answers sociological ?
Instead of answering the question, i would like to question this question.
When we studied chemistry, physics, or mathematics in school and college, we never sat down and discussed, “How do I make my answer chemical?” or “How do I make my answer mathematical?”
When we studied history, political science, or environmental studies, we never worried about making our answers “historical,” “political,” or “environmental.”
Yet the moment students encounter sociology, some of them become obsessed with a new question:
“How do I make my answer sociological?”
They are often found discussing that answers become “sociological” when they add thinkers. I feel surprised.
Adding Marx, Durkheim, Srinivas , Ghurye cant make my answers “sociological” just like adding Bohr, Dalton, Rutherford , Bose cant make my answer “chemical”..
Well then what’s the answer ? More than that, I’m still to figure out why is there this question ?
What makes sociology distinct is not the answer it gives, but the questions that it raises.
Why family exists among humans ? Is a sociological question.
Why rate of crime is more in urban towns ? Is a sociological question.
How religion justifies inequality ? Is a sociological question.
And when you give answers to such question, you are seen as attempting sociological questions ..
The real challenge, therefore, is not learning how to write sociological answers.
The real challenge is learning how to ask sociological questions.I would again say It is not the answer, but the question that makes a statement sociological.

| 6 | Why do some individuals see a drop in their marks despite having scored 270+ in their previous attempts?
They undergo an self-imposed metamorphosis. The new target is 300. And in the pursuit of that target, they “reinvent” their answer-writing.
Suddenly, answers are filled with the name of the book, the year it was published, sometimes even the publisher. Well, If mentioning the publisher sounds unnecessary, often so do the year and the book title.
They begin using complex keywords and convoluted sentences.
They start referring to topper copies to find that elusive “edge.”
They remove everything that appears “GS” and replace it with what “merely” appears to be sociology.
Yet, they spend very little time strengthening the foundations.
Can they clearly differentiate anomie from deviance in Merton’s theory? Do they truly understand what dialectics means and how it brings about change? Can they explain how traditions become agent of modernisation ?
The beauty lies in the basics.
It reminds me of my experimental experiences with Hyderabadi biryani.
A local eatery may serve a simple looking biryani. A five-star hotel may garnish it with saffron, cashews, pistachios and walnuts. The presentation is different, but what ultimately matters is whether the rice is perfectly cooked, the spices are balanced, and the flavours are authentic.
The same is true for our answers. Decorations may impress for a moment. But it is only and only fundamentals that earn marks.

How do you become “different” from the others?
The answer is simple if you’re ready to accept it.
If you just write all the 19 questions in socio ‘right’, you will automatically become ‘different’ not just from the 2,500 Sociology students, but from the entire pool of 13,000 candidates.
You can’t plan to write something different. You can only plan to write something right.
And if you consistently write the right answers, the result will inevitably make you different.
Let me explain with an example.
Suppose you get a question on modernity and the emergence of sociology.
You have two choices:
Either write the right answer or write the “different” answer.
The “different” answer is filled with terms like liquid modernity, postmodernity, multiple modernities, arguments about sociology existing even before modernity, and finally digital sociology in the age of digital modernity.
The right answer starts with the basics: define modernity, explain its features, discuss the social changes and problems it created, show how these changes demanded their scientific study, and then explain how sociology emerged as a discipline to understand these transformations.
The student writing the first answer would probably write the names of thinkers on the question paper the moment the exam begins, drop every keyword exactly as planned, feel excited because the question looked familiar, and come out of the exam hall discussing how well he answered it.
The second student, on the other hand, may feel a sense of FOMO because the answer looked too simple and didn’t seem “special.”
Then the results arrive.
And they surprise both of them.

The tests are flexible in nature.
