Apparently God needed to tell me something three times. And by the third time, I was like: Okay, God. I get it. I wasn't searching for these verses. I happened upon all three while working on something completely different. First: "The righteous person may have many troubles.." Psalm 34:19 Then: "We must go through many hardships…” Acts 14:22 And finally, Jesus Himself: "In this world you will have trouble." John 16:33 Okayyyy. I'm listening. Many troubles. Many hardships. You WILL have trouble. Not exactly the inspirational message was hoping for. But I started wondering if maybe God wasn't simply reminding me that life would be hard. Maybe He was correcting something I keep forgetting. Hardship does not necessarily mean something has gone wrong. And yet, how often do we treat it that way? Something gets hard and immediately we wonder: God, where are You? Did I make the wrong decision? Am I outside Your will? Why would You let this happen? If You're with me, why is this so hard? Somewhere along the way, I think many of us started believing that God's faithfulness should look like a life with fewer hard things. But that isn't actually what Scripture promises. Jesus didn't say, "Follow Me, and nothing will hurt." He said, "In this world you will have trouble." And then He told us not to lose heart. And this is the part I almost missed: None of those verses leaves us alone in the trouble. "The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all." "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." The trouble is real. But so is God. Maybe we need to stop interpreting every difficult season as evidence that God has abandoned us. Maybe the presence of hardship doesn't mean the absence of God. Maybe sometimes we are exactly where we're supposed to be... and it's still hard. Because Psalm 34 was written by someone who knew fear. Someone who cried out. Someone who was brokenhearted. Someone who had troubles. And somehow, right there in the middle of it all, David could still say: "Taste and see that the LORD is good." Psalm 34:8 Maybe that's where we learn His goodness most deeply. Not because suffering itself is good. But because we discover that when everything around us is shaking, He isn't. He is still near. Still faithful. Still listening. Still God. So yes. You may have many troubles. You may go through hardships. Jesus Himself said you will have trouble in this world. But please don't stop reading there. The Lord delivers. Jesus has overcome. And the God who is close to the brokenhearted will be with you through every bit of it. Psalm 34:18-19 ~Kelli Bachara
