Matt Chandler repeatedly accuses some Christians of operating by a truncated gospel because it fails to address social issues. Yet, his view makes little sense. He says social issues are part of the gospel because God is building a community of Christians, then he wants Christians to somehow impose the rules for this community on unbelievers who are not part of it. This is the current state of Christian Apologetics on the topic of the Bible and slavery. Yeah, it's pretty bad and embarrassing. Since I've been involved with campus ministry for years, I've had to field these questions, but I didn't like the idea of trying to get God off the hook by reconciling the Bible with social liberalism. In a special Patron-only episode, I explain why I reject the mainstream Christian approach and argue against slavery on different grounds while acknowledging the inescapability of labor hierarchies.
