| 6 | It feels like we just witnessed a public flogging but if anyone ask questions about it or reveals why there was a flogging it’s somehow gossiping, slandering, and usurping the authority of elders.

| 15 | Tim Keller, in his influential book Generous Justice, taught that “pride and lust for power” led to the formation of separate nations at Babel. God, he claims, is “distressed that the unity of the human family has been broken, and declares his intention to take down the walls of racism and nationalism that human sin and pride have put there.”
Part of this effort includes “reversing” the “curse of Babel” at Pentecost when God declared “that the grace of Jesus can heal the wounds of racism.” This led to a “community of equal ‘fellow-citizens’ from all races” in the church.
The gospel was thus a mechanism to give people “critical distance from their own culture” and “end all racial division.” Keller thus interprets passages like Ephesians 2, that describe the now inconsequential barrier of adhering to Jewish ceremonial law for entering the community of faith, as admonitions against racism.
In addition, Keller also charges Christians with the duty to socially overcome national barriers by doing things like diversifying community leadership and providing economic relief in poor communities. This responsibility stems from the biblical teaching that God created humanity from “one blood,” the gospel’s power to dismantle national divisions, and the belief that diversity reflects the church’s role as a living testament to the gospel’s truth.
This thinking sinks deep into evangelicalism, including folks who think of themselves as "anti-woke." I'm going to talk about this on the podcast tomorrow. | 186 |

| 19 | Jon talks about ideology. Historian Carey Roberts describes ideology as a “rationalistic, closed system of thought designed to explain all of human behavior through simple precepts.” Christians can fall into this by reducing every issue down to something like racial dynamics, eschatological views, or social justice driven equalitarianism. The problem is, at the root of ideology is an arrogance that can actually harm real tangible people.
