SHORT NOTES - FSS ACT BY FOOD_FEEDS CHAPTER II - FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS AUTHORITY OF INDIA ( 14 SECTIONS ) (PART 01) 4. Establishment of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India FSSAI under the legal framework of the FSS Act 2006 has both the administrative and technical role to execute in order to establish a food safety ecosystem in the country. Head office – NEW DELHI 5. Composition of Food Authority and qualifications for appointment of its Chairperson and other Members The Food Authority shall consist of a Chairperson and the following twenty-two members out of which one-third shall be women Central gov appoints the chairperson and 22 members Chairperson - Shri Rajesh Bhushan Age Limit - 65 Years Comes under the post – secretary of gov of India 22 other members 1. Agriculture, 2. Commerce, 3. Consumer Affairs, 4. Food Processing, 5. Health, 6. Legislative Affairs, 7. Small Scale Industries Above seven ministries – one member each Come under the post of – joint secretary Two representatives from the food industry of which one shall be from small scale industries Two representatives from the consumer organizations Three eminent food technologists or scientists Five members to be appointed by rotation every three years on the zones Two persons to represent farmers’ organizations One person to represent retailer's organizations. Food_Feeds - CFSO/TO FSSAI issues three types of license based on the nature of the food business and turnover Registration: For Turnover less than ₹12 Lakh State License: For Turnover between ₹12 Lakh to ₹20 Crore Central License: For Turnover above ₹20 Crore Other criteria like the location of the business, number of retail stores, etc. are needed while evaluating the nature of the license application.
