The main purpose is to develop sustainable production systems that allow tribal households in remote areas of Chhattisgarh to practice round-the-year production of diversified and nutritious food. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- India-Australia circular Economy Hackathon (IACE) The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the valedictory function of the India Australia Circular Economy Hackathon (I-ACE) via videoconferencing. The I-ACE was jointly organized by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Government of India, and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia. More than 200 participants in 39 teams from India and 33 teams from Australia took part. Four key themes for the hackathon • Innovation in packaging reducing packaging waste • Innovation in food supply chains avoiding waste • Creating opportunities for plastic waste reduction • Recycling critical energy metals and e-waste HAPPY LEARNING 🥳

CURRENT AFFAIRS - FOOD_FEEDS World Food Price Index: FAO Why in News The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) food price index averaged 107.5 points in December 2020, up 2.3 points from November 2020. This marks the seventh month of consecutive increase. Key Points ▪️About the Index - It was introduced in 1996 as a public good to help in monitoring developments in the global agricultural commodity markets. ▪️The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) is a measure of the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities. ▪️It measures changes for a basket of cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat, and sugar. ▪️Base Period: 2014-16. About the Food and Agriculture Organization ▪️FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger ▪️World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16th October. The day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the founding of the FAO in 1945. ▪️India released a commemorative coin of Rs. 75 denomination to mark the 75th Anniversary of the FAO (16th October 2020). ▪️It is one of the UN food aid organizations based in Rome (Italy). Its sister bodies are the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Initiatives Taken 1. Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS). 2. Monitors the Desert Locust situation throughout the world. 3. Key Points 🔸 Globally, the demand for Moringa products, such as Moringa Leaf Powder and Moringa Oil, Moringa as a nutritional supplement, and in food fortification has been witnessing healthy growth. 🔸Its usage has been well received among global consumers for its nutritional, medicinal, culinary uses. Moringa 🔺Botanical name: Moringa oleifera 🔺It is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree native to the Indian subcontinent. 🔺Common names include moringa, drumstick tree, horseradish tree, etc. 🔺It is widely cultivated for its young seed pods and leaves, used as vegetables, and for traditional herbal medicine. It is also used for water purification. 🔺It has various healthy compounds such as various vitamins, important elements such as Iron, Magnesium, etc. and is extremely low on fats and contains no cholesterol.
