Fastest way Crack Bitcoin wallet passwords using JtR! Here’s the step-by-step process:
1️⃣ Install John the Ripper (Jumbo version):
sudo apt update
sudo apt install john
2️⃣ Extract the wallet hash:
Locate your wallet.dat file:
- Linux: ~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat
- Windows: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\wallet.dat
Extract the hash:
python3 /path/to/john/run/bitcoin2john.py /path/to/wallet.dat > wallet_hash.txt
3️⃣ Crack the password:
Using a wordlist:
john --format=bitcoin --wordlist=/path/to/wordlist.txt wallet_hash.txt
Brute-force attack:
john --format=bitcoin --incremental wallet_hash.txt
4️⃣ Monitor progress:
- Check status:

Detailed Answer:
You can restrict users in two ways:
1. Prevent users from using binaries (non-sudo users).
2. Allow users to use binaries but not with sudo.
### Method 1: Restricting non-sudo users
- Create a group and prevent the group from executing certain commands.
- Add users to the group.
### Method 2: Preventing users from using binaries with sudo
- Create a group and add this line to the /etc/sudoers file:
$ %groupname ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: !/bin/mkdir, !/bin/touch, !/bin/nano
### To Apply the Restrictions:
1. Switch to sudo user:
$ sudo su
2. Run the following commands to remove binary access for all users except sudo users:
$ sudo chmod o-x /usr/bin/mkdir
$ sudo chmod o-x /usr/bin/touch
$ sudo chmod o-x /usr/bin/nano
Bonus Tip:
If you want a group to update/upgrade but not install or remove packages, do the following:
1. Edit the sudoers file:
$ sudo visudo
2. Add these lines for the group:
- Allow update and upgrade:
$ %groupname ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt update, /usr/bin/apt upgrade
- Block install, remove, and purge:
$ %groupname ALL=(ALL) !/usr/bin/apt install, !/usr/bin/apt remove, !/usr/bin/apt purge
