đ A Gold-Mushroom combo to ease drug delivery:
⢠Cordy gold nanoparticles (Cor-AuNPs), the outcome of a collaborative experiment by scientists from four Indian institutions, has earned an international patent from Germany.
⢠These nanoparticles, derived from the synthesis of the extracts of Cordyceps militaris and gold salts, could make drug delivery in the human body faster and surer.
⢠Cordyceps militaris is a high value parasitic fungus, lab-grown at the Department of Biotechnologyâs Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) in Bodoland University.
⢠Gold salts are ionic chemical compounds of gold generally used in medicine.
⢠"Penetration in the cells is more when the drug particles are smaller. Cordyceps militaris, called super mushroom because of its tremendous medicinal properties, adds bioactive components to the synthesis of gold nanoparticles for better penetration," said Sandip Das, head of the incubation centre.

â Kempegowda's 108 feet statue (Statue of Prosperity) unveiled:
⢠Nadaprabhu Kempegowda is a feudatory ruler under the erstwhile Vijayanagara Empire. He founded Bengaluru in 1537.
⢠He is revered, especially by the Vokkaliga community that is dominant in Old Mysuru and other parts of southern Karnataka.
⢠The monument is named as the "Statue of Prosperity".
⢠It has been built to commemorate the contribution of Kempegowda, the founder of the city, towards the growth of Bengaluru.
⢠The 108 feet statue of Kempegowda is the "first and tallest bronze statue of a founder of a city," as per 'World Book of Records'.
⢠Renowned sculptor and Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Vanji Sutar has designed the statue.

đ¨đťââď¸Justice DY Chandrachud becomes 50th CJI:
⢠Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
⢠President Droupadi Murmu administered him the oath.
⢠Justice Chandrachud as CJI will have a term of two years and will head Indiaâs judiciary until November 10, 2024, a day before he completes 65 years.
⢠CJI Chandrachud, who describes dissent as the âsafety valve of democracyâ, has been part of several Constitution benches and landmark verdicts of the top court, including judgments on the Ayodhya land dispute, and the Right to Privacy.
⢠He wrote lead judgment for a nine-judge Constitution Bench in the Justice K.S. Puttaswamy Vs. Union of India case, in which it was unanimously held that Right to Privacy constituted a fundamental right.
⢠His father, Y.V. Chandrachud, holds the distinction of being the longest serving CJI, who headed the judiciary from February 22, 1978 to July 11, 1985.
⥠Who can become the CJI?
⢠Apart from being an Indian citizen, the person must (a) have been for at least five years a Judge of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession or (b) have been for at least ten years an advocate of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession, or (c) be, in the opinion of the President, a distinguished jurist.
⥠Who appoints the CJI?
⢠The Chief Justice of India and the other judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President under clause (2) of Article 124 of the Indian Constitution. It is mentioned in Article 124 that appointment by the President is to be done âafter consultationâ with judges of the Supreme Court, as the President may âdeem necessaryâ.
⢠The CJI is appointed by the President as well once the consultation with the judges of SC and HC is done as the President deems necessary.
⢠The President administers the oath of office to Chief Justice of India.
⢠The Supreme Courtâs maximum strength can be 34 judges (including Chief Justice of India).
⥠Appointment of CJI:
⢠The Collegium System is a system through which appointments, promotion and transfer of the judges of the Supreme Court are decided. It is carried forward by a forum consisting of the Chief Justice of India along with four of the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
⢠No such mention (of the Collegium) has been made either in the original Constitution of India or in successive amendments.
⢠The collegium system was talked about in the three judges case in Supreme Court.
⢠It was decided in the three judges case that a consultation of the plurality of judges is required for appointment of the CJI in India. This means that the only opinion of the CJI would not be the only factor in choosing the next CJI. The CJI must consult the four most senior judges of the Supreme Court also.
⥠Tenure of Judges:
⢠He/She holds office until he attains the age of 65 years. Any question regarding his age is to be determined by such authority and in such manner as provided by Parliament.
⢠He/She can resign his office by writing to the president.
⢠He/She can be removed from his office by the President on the recommendation of the Parliament.
⥠What is the procedure for the removal of the CJI?
⢠The constitution states: âA Judge of the Supreme Court shall not be removed from his office except by an order of the President passed after an address by each House of Parliament supported by a majority of the total membership of that House and by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of that House present and votingâ, with the address in the same session presented to the President for removal on one of the two grounds â proved misbehaviour or incapacity.
⥠Other Facts:
⢠Justice Fathima Beevi was the first woman SC judge in India appointed in 1989.
⢠Justice B.V. Nagarathna, who is in line to be India's first woman Chief Justice of India in the year 2027.

⢠India's first privately developed rocket "Vikram-S" by "Skyroot Aerospace" is set for a launch between November 12 and 16.
⢠With this mission, "Skyroot Aerospace" is set to become the first private space company in India to launch a rocket into space.
⢠Skyroot Aerospace is a Hyderabad based space startup.
⢠The maiden mission of Skyroot Aerospace, named 'Prarambh' (the beginning), will carry three customer payloads and is set for launch from Indian Space Research Organisation's launchpad at Sriharikota.
⢠Skyroot is a two-time national award winner and the first startup to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ISRO in this regard.

đ Over 64,000 people in India die of snakebites each year:
⢠Snakebite (a neglected tropical disease) is a public health problem in India and many other low and middle income countries has been long known.
⢠In India, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of deaths, estimated to be up to 16,100, followed by Madhya Pradesh (up to 5,790 deaths), and Rajasthan (up to 5,230 deaths).
⢠The age-standardised death rate in India is 4.0 per 1,00,000.
⢠At 4.50 per 1,00,000, only Somalia has a higher age-standardised death rate than India.
⢠Within India, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have higher age standardised death rates at 6.5, 6.0, and 5.8 per 1,00,000 respectively.
⢠Despite such high number of deaths each year, there is no national strategy to address the burden of snakebite in India.
⢠The global target is to halve the number of deaths and injuries from snakebite by 2030.
