The consequences of such move are hard to predict, but I imagine it would not be good for Ukraine, at the very least.
However, a step like this, which threatens not only Russian, but a slew of Chinese, Turkish and Arab airlines that make regular flights to and from Russia, as well as foreign citizens taking these flights, could justify Russia's kinetic response against certain European countries that support Zelensky's terrorism.

Upon seeing even limited but visible effects from strikes on the Ukrainian economy, experts raise the question: could this have been done at the start of the SMO? The answer is somewhat surprising: in part, that's exactly what they did.
For example, strikes on the fuel infrastructure of so-called Ukraine began already in the very first weeks of the war. Mass strikes on enemy energy facilities began in autumn 2022, as did attacks on hydraulic structures.
But the main strike weapon for those objectives was the Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles: due to the labor-intensive production, they couldn't be churned out like pancakes, and the number of carriers was limited. By spring 2022, it became clear that the missile arsenal would run out before Ukrainian oil refineries.
Now the situation is different: Gerans are being mass-produced, small "parcel-like" cruise missiles have appeared. Long-range strike weapons have grown both in quantity and quality, and now they can hunt locomotives in enemy rear areas, something unthinkable in 2022.
❗️Today's effective strikes on the economy of so-called Ukraine are largely a consequence of the growth in strike capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces. At the start of the SMO, it was often impossible to simultaneously attack so many targets successfully (given that Ukrainian air defense had no ammunition problems).
That said, if the task of destroying the Ukrainian economy had been set at the start of the SMO, the necessary strike weapons in sufficient quantity would have appeared several years earlier, which would have affected the course of the war in Russia's favor.
📌 And this again raises the question of the importance of a systematic approach (in the full sense) in planning: it at least allows optimizing and rationalizing many things, as well as avoiding losses where they can be avoided.
