Post-stroke, the body slowed. The wit never did. That combination of theatrical precision and gleeful chaos is something film school can't teach and Netflix can't manufacture. RIP. 🎩

Sacha Baron Cohen wrote, directed and stars in this sequel to 'Ali G Indahouse', his feature directorial debut via Amazon MGM. The whole thing was shot in secret, which is honestly the most Ali G thing possible.
The real question is whether the joke still lands. Prank comedy lives on the target not knowing who you are. Half the world knows Ali G now. The other half has never heard of him and couldn't care less about a parody of early-2000s UK roadman culture.
That tension, a character frozen in time facing a world that moved on, could actually be interesting if Cohen leans into it. He probably won't. But the possibility is there.

If you slept on his Werewolves Within, fix that first. This feels like the same DNA: genre scaffolding, genuine heart, jokes that respect your intelligence. Premiering at Fantastic Fest, which tends to have good radar for this stuff.

Destin Daniel Cretton (the guy behind 'Shang-Chi') clearly understood what the Sony solo experiments never did: Spider-Man works when Marvel is in the room. Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven... that graveyard exists precisely so this film could feel like a resurrection.
Jon Bernthal as Punisher dropping into a Spider-Man film is the kind of swing that only works when there's trust between the studios. Right now, that trust is printing money.

Brand New Day just crossed $1B worldwide in four days, second-fastest ever behind Endgame. Director Destin Daniel Cretton delivered something genuinely grounded for a Holland Spider-Man, and that "I am both" payoff people keep talking about lands harder than any MCU moment in years.
Sony killed every solo villain spinoff, kept Spider-Verse 3, and is now riding this wave with everything they've got. Smart. When your one sure thing is this sure, you don't dilute it with Morbius sequels.
Tom Holland has now starred in multiple billion-dollar films and counting. At this point he is not just Sony's golden goose, he is the whole farm.

Zak Penn is officially writing the sequel to 'Ready Player One', with Spielberg back as producer. Ernest Cline's second novel is, by near-universal agreement, a disaster. Wade becomes an insufferable tech-bro fantasy and the whole thing reads like Elon Musk fan fiction published in 2020.
Penn deviated from the first book too, and that's largely why the movie worked. Here he has an even stronger case for throwing out the source material and keeping only the skeleton. The IP is the playground, not the plot. Use it.

That last part is where it gets interesting for me. Four Marvel titles. Zero surprises in the top four. The genre has basically colonized peak box office like it owns the deed. 'No Way Home' already proved this franchise has no ceiling; Brand New Day just confirmed it has no floor either. 🕷️

Kitao Sakurai directing a Street Fighter movie with Jason Momoa as Blanka is exactly the kind of casting that makes you tilt your head and just go with it. Andrew Koji as Ryu is the smarter choice on paper, and the Blanka vs. Ryu sequence has real momentum.
The rapid cutting is my main concern, but I'll reserve judgment. The "so-bad-it's-good" lane feels too comfortable for a property that deserves better. I want this to be legitimately fun, not accidentally.

What genuinely intrigues me is Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor Von Doom with a full accent and zero smirk. The Russos brought him back as the villain, and that's a real swing worth watching.
Whether it lands depends entirely on whether the Russos keep Doom cold and theatrical, never winking at the audience. This is chapter one of a two-part reset leading into Secret Wars in 2027, so I'm cautiously in.

The tone question is the whole ballgame here. The posters scream dark comedy, the synopsis reads survival horror, and early screenings got laughs. Mitchell playing it straight would intrigue me more than a knowing wink. Either way, this is the most original blockbuster pitch of the summer.

The trailer showcases a hand-painted animation style that feels like nothing Pixar has done in years, and that alone is enough to buy my attention. Director Enrico Casarosa returns to Italy after Luca, this time with a scrappy black cat named Nero tangled up in a feline mob.
The cast is led by Mark Ruffalo as Nero and Laurence Fishburne as Rocco, the mob boss. Fishburne doing a cat crime lord in an oil-painting Venice. I'm in. My only real question is whether the music angle gets the space it deserves, or ends up as window dressing on what is already a very full premise.

Anthony Head built his legacy across four very different pillars: Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Uther Pendragon in Merlin, and Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso. What gets me is the range. Giles: the warm father figure every lost kid deserved. Mannion: a smug, hollow villain you pitied as much as you despised.

But the IMAX logo on this poster is literally bigger than the title, and those medieval-looking warriors could be from any generic fantasy game cover. 🤨
Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Oppenheimer-level star power behind him. The faith is there. I just hope the film earns an identity as singular as its production. Turn up the subtitles either way.

Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine know exactly what this is: a victory lap built on archive gold and a handful of new bits, with no pretense of passing the torch. The new cast isn't on the poster, and that's not an accident.
What made Jackass untouchable was never the stunts. It was a specific group of broken, fearless idiots who genuinely loved each other. The film mixes old and new footage, serving as a celebration of the whole franchise. You can't franchise that chemistry, and TikTok proved it by trying every day.
Those two empty spaces in the shopping cart poster hit harder than any stunt. Ryan Dunn was part of the original crew's DNA. This one's for him, for the era, and for knowing when to stop.
