π¬ Soderbergh takes the Batcowl behind the camera
Steven Soderbergh has stepped in to finish shooting 'The Batman Part II', and Matt Reeves plans to return for post-production. The details are thin so far.
Soderbergh is a fast, practical shooter who often works as his own cinematographer. That's a useful skill when a big production needs to wrap efficiently. Nothing so far says Robert Pattinson's return is in doubt.
If Reeves keeps the edit, the score and the final look, the film will still read as his Gotham, and Soderbergh will have been a clean-up hitter.

πΏ 'Clayface' turns Gotham's mud man into body horror, and early reactions like it
π Release: October 23, 2026
π Genre: #Horror Β· #Superhero
βοΈ Add to watchlist
James Watkins (the man behind 'Eden Lake' and 'Speak No Evil') directs an R-rated Batman spin-off, and /Film has the first screening reactions in. That's a filmmaker who knows how to make cruelty uncomfortable, which suits a villain whose body is the horror.
The script comes from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, so expect a tragic monster story, not a capes-and-quips one. Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen has to sell both the charm and the melting.
Social reactions are always generous, so the real test is the full reviews. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie and David Dencik.

πΏ Gerwig's Narnia starts with a lion singing the world into being
π Release: February 12, 2027 (theaters), April 2 on Netflix
π Genre: #Fantasy Β· #Adventure

/Film has the first trailer for 'The Magician's Nephew', with two newcomers as Digory and Polly, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep in support, and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" over the first steps into another world.
Picking the creation story is a smart way into Narnia. It skips the wardrobe and the Pevensies, and it lets Greta Gerwig play with myth and wonder, as she did with the plastic utopia of 'Barbie'. A classic-rock needle drop says she isn't making a museum piece.

π¬ RJ Mitte, Flynn on 'Breaking Bad', has died at 34
His reps confirmed the death of RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. across 56 episodes of 'Breaking Bad'. TMZ reports that a county official in Texas confirmed it, and the investigation is ongoing. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988.
Mitte has cerebral palsy, and he played Flynn without hiding it. That gave a disabled actor a lasting place on one of TV's great dramas. He also worked as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's.
Flynn was the family's moral compass, and the show needed him to be that.

πΏ Hexed: Disney bets a teen witch and a grumpy cat can carry an original
π Release: November 25, 2026
π Genre: #Animation Β· #Fantasy Β· #Comedy

Disney's new original follows Billie, a teenager who finds out she's a witch, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Walton Goggins voices a three-eyed cat with a bad attitude.
The "ordinary girl turns out to be magical" premise is as old as the broom. The cat is the only thing here with a pulse of its own, and Goggins' dry menace is the right fuel for it. Original Disney animation needs exactly that kind of oddball energy to stand apart from the sequels.

πΏ Blade Runner 2099 hands the world to the replicants
π Release: November 25, 2026
π Genre: #SciFi Β· #Drama
βοΈ Add to watchlist
The new trailer shows a world where replicants have won and are now stuck with the same questions about identity and mortality. Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead eight episodes on Prime Video, set 50 years after 2049.
Flipping the power balance is the smart move. 'Blade Runner' always asked what makes a person, and a society run by the made rather than the makers gives that question room a two-hour film never had. You don't need to have seen 'Blade Runner' to follow it, but the rain-soaked melancholy only lands if the show earns it and doesn't just borrow the neon.

πΏ The Exorcist: Martyrs puts Scarlett Johansson in the devil's crosshairs
π Release: March 12, 2027
π Genre: #Horror Β· #Thriller
βοΈ Add to watchlist
Mike Flanagan is finally getting his Exorcist, and /Film says the trailer swerves from the franchise's usual dread. Scarlett Johansson plays an NYPD detective chasing a killer who calls himself Father Sunday.
That makes it a procedural first and a possession story second. It's a smart way in after sequels that kept trying to out-scare Friedkin.
Flanagan has the tools, from the chamber-piece tension of 'Hush' to a gift for grief and faith. If the film honors the ritual and doesn't treat it as a gimmick, this could be the best thing the series has done in decades.

π¬ Nick Fury skips Doomsday and waits for Secret Wars
Samuel L. Jackson says he's not in 'Avengers: Doomsday'. His next Marvel movie is the one after it, which means Fury sits out the X-Men reunion and the Evans and Hemsworth comeback party.
That's a smart call. Fury has been a cameo with an eyepatch since the 2008 post-credits scene, and 'Secret Invasion' did him no favors. Saving him for a Battleworld pile-up gives him a reason to show up again.
'Avengers: Secret Wars' is set for December 17, 2027, with no plot details yet.

πΏ Carrie ends with a door open to a bigger King world
/Film argues that Mike Flanagan has quietly soft-launched a second King universe. His 'Carrie' moves the story to the social media era and writes the bullies as people, not cartoons. Then it frames Carrie White as one link in a long line of psychic women.
That's the smart part. A shared universe built on a lineage of powers beats stitching Easter eggs together, which is how 'The Dark Tower' (2017) sank. Flanagan already proved with 'Doctor Sleep' (2019) that he can honor King and still go his own way.
Eight episodes on Prime Video, with Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan. Flanagan's dream is three seasons, and no second season is confirmed yet.

π¬ Bay and Spielberg go back to Cybertron
Michael Bay is in talks to direct the next Transformers for Paramount, with Steven Spielberg overseeing the franchise's creative direction again. Bay hasn't touched it since 'The Last Knight' (2017), and the Skydance-era Paramount is clearly betting on nostalgia as a reset button. π€
Honestly, it intrigues me and it worries me. After the grounded charm of 'Bumblebee', going back to Bay's pyrotechnic maximalism feels like a step backward. But Spielberg as the adult in the room might be what keeps the explosions pointed at a story. Show me a script before I cheer.

πΏ Netflix just handed Sheridan's most underrated show a second life
All four seasons of Mayor of Kingstown hit Netflix on October 5, right before the final season. Taylor Sheridan co-created it, and it's the one nobody talks about next to 'Yellowstone'. π¬
Honestly, that's a shame. Jeremy Renner as a fixer holding a prison town together is bleak, pulpy and a little overcooked, and I mean that as a compliment. It won't win awards, but 40 episodes of grim, well-oiled pulp is a very good fall binge. π₯

π¬ Endgame takes the crown back, by a hair
'Avengers: Endgame' is the highest-grossing movie ever again, edging out 'Avatar' by roughly $2 million (about $2.9255B to $2.9237B, per Deadline). A re-release pulled it off, and the timing is no accident.
I like the cheek of it. The Anthony and Joe Russo movie gets a victory lap right before 'Avengers: Doomsday' lands in December, which is smart marketing. It also feels a bit like a stat built for a headline. π€
James Cameron won't sit still, and his sequels and re-releases make this a seesaw. Enjoy the throne while it lasts.

π¬ Spider-Noir dies after one season, and it makes no sense
Prime Video pulled the plug on 'Spider-Noir' with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any of its shows this year. Nicolas Cage finally got his first regular TV role, and it shows he can carry a series.
My read is that it launched big but dropped out of the top 10 fast, and the price tag didn't help. Black-and-white and color versions of every episode is a gorgeous flex, just not a cheap one. That's the lesson from the 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' era that streamers keep ignoring. Weird Spider-Man works. Weird Spider-Man at prestige-drama cost apparently doesn't. π·οΈ

Tracking points to an $8 to $13 million opening, against the $22.4 million that 'The Social Network' pulled in back in 2010. Soft for something this splashy, and it means the film lives or dies on word of mouth. π
Me compra que Aaron Sorkin directs it himself, and Jeremy Strong and Mikey Madison are a serious pair. Me chirrΓa the October slot for an adult drama with no Fincher. Ojo, this one needs critics to carry it. π¬

/Film flags that Paladin, a deep-cut comic mercenary played by Todd Stashwick, is hunting a bounty on Vision. Me compra. A hired gun with no cape and no cosmic baggage is the right scale after 'WandaVision'.
Paul Bettany has carried this character through every mood Marvel could throw at him. Ojo to Terry Matalas at the helm, who knows how to land a messy legacy. I just hope Paladin gets more than one fight scene to matter π€

πΏ Jackson Lamb meets Dobby, and it works
This season, Gary Oldman (Sirius Black in 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban') shares scenes with Lenny Rush, the 17-year-old cast as Dobby in the HBO 'Harry Potter'. Lamb ends up shielding a kid whose father was murdered. Cute coincidence, sure. π§
What I like is that nobody sells it as a stunt. Rush plays a frightened boy opposite the foulest spy in London, and that's a better pitch than any wand-waving. 'Slow Horses' keeps landing sharp casting without begging for attention. π΅οΈ

Alejandro G. IΓ±Γ‘rritu returns to English-language filmmaking for the first time since 'The Revenant', with a "comedy of catastrophic proportions." SlashFilm's early review says his indulgences nearly sink it. That tracks. The 'Birdman' ego-trip energy is right there in the pitch. π¬
What intrigues me is Tom Cruise as the lifeline. Since 'Tropic Thunder' we know he's game for gleeful self-parody, and an auteur with a big satirical swing needs exactly that anchor. I'm in, with one eyebrow raised.

πΏ Reacher already has a Season 6, and Season 5 isn't even finished
Prime Video renewed the show while cameras are still rolling in Toronto on the "Make Me" season. That's not a streamer hedging its bets. I like it. πͺ
Alan Ritchson turned a guy who punches people into a reliable global draw, and Season 4 reportedly pulled 66 million viewers in 28 days. That puts Reacher next to 'Bosch' as Prime's longest-running scripted staple. My only worry is formula fatigue, but the one-book-per-season setup keeps it honest.

π¬ Assayas and Stewart are back. "Spiritual World" looks like the film they were always going to make again.
Olivier Assayas described the project as being "in the vein" of Personal Shopper, which tells you everything. Kristen Stewart alongside Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough, Wagner Moura, and Barbara Sukowa. That's a serious ensemble.
The Fassbinder regular Sukowa in an Assayas ghost story signals something more European, more patient. Krieps fresh off Corsage adds another layer. This won't be mainstream comfort food, and that's exactly the point.βοΈ Add to watchlist

Robert Eggers and the werewolf myth feel like a natural fit, and the trailer proves it. Aaron Taylor-Johnson brings raw physicality, and Willem Dafoe lurking at the edge seals it.
Same Focus Features pairing as Nosferatu, co-written with SjΓ³n. SlashFilm calls it the perfect companion piece. I buy that.
