🌙 Ramadān Reminders #5: Etiquettes of Supplicating to Allāh
Allāh says,
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ
“And your Lord said: ‘Supplicate to Me and I will respond to you...” Sūrah Ghāfir: 60.
The following are some etiquettes of Supplicating to Allāh from the Qur’ān & Sunnah.
Etiquettes of Supplications:
1 - Begin with mentioning the beautiful Names of Allāh.
2 - We should praise Allāh as He deserves before we call upon Him.
3 - Send Sālah upon the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ.
4 - Raising the hands. The palm of the hand should be raised heavenwards, in the manner of a humble beggar.
5 - Having certain faith that Allāh will respond, and focusing with proper presence of mind.
6 - Supplicating with humility, hope and fear.
7 - Saying the supplication three times.
8 - Saying du’a silently and not out loud.

Ramadan Reminders #2
“O’ you who has committed major sins, hasten to reap the bounteous booty during these noble days. There are no alternative days that can substitute for these, nor are there any equal to such in value!.”

Ibn Abbas reported:
“The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was the most generous of people and he was even more generous in Ramadan when Gabriel would meet him. He would meet him every night of Ramadan to study the Qur’ān. Thus, the Prophet would be more generous than a nourishing wind.”
[Bukhari & Muslim]

Ramadān Planning 2024
Now that Ramadān is a day away, here are some actions we should focus on in this blessed month:
1. Recite a minimum of 30mins of Qur'ān every day:
- Our aim should be to increase to at least one Juzz a day.
- Allocate a time in the day & night for your recitation.
2. Praise and Seek forgiveness from Allāh every day:
- Make time to praise and give thanks to Allāh.
- Have moments alone to reflect on our actions and seek repentance.
3. Pray 2 units of prayer alone every night [after Tarawīh]:
- Before bed pray two units of prayer alone with the intention of Tahajjud [Night Prayer].
4. Buy a Notebook!!! - Write down your goals for this Ramadān:
- Write down what goals you want to complete in this month.
- Review your goals throughout the month to ensure you are working towards them.
5. Remember the Muslims around the world who are less fortunate then us:
- Make supplications for the Muslims who do not have what we have and are struggling to find their basic needs.
6. Share Iftār with family & friends:
- Strengthen the bonds of family by breaking fast together.
- Invite friends for Iftār to strengthen the bond.
7. Give charity every night:
- Give from the wealth Allāh has given us in His cause to support the Ummah.
- The Prophet Mohammed ﷺ was the most generous in Ramadān.
- Set aside some money every day.

Supplications for The Muslim Ummah
The month of Ramadān is a few days away, while we are planning our month, please use the attached booklet which contains supplications for the Ummah to be said in the blessed month.
While we supplicate for ourselves and family, let us make time to remember the Ummah as well.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There are three whose supplication is not rejected: a just ruler, the fasting person when he breaks his fast and the prayer of the oppressed person" Sunan Tirmidhi [no. 2525].

Heal your heart with Qur'ān
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“If you read (the Qur'ān) with contemplation, even if over a (single) ayah, it is a key to healing your heart. Even if repeated a hundred times and for the (whole) night. Reading an ayah with contemplation and understanding is better than reading to completion without tadabbur and understanding. It is more beneficial for the heart and ensures gain in faith, and in tasting sweetness of the Qur'ān.”

Fiqh of Fasting
We have translated the book 'A Summarised Description of The Prayer, Fasting, Night Prayer and I’tikāf of The Prophet of Allāh ﷺ' by Shaykh Abdul Azīz bin Marzūq At-Tarīfī
The aim of the Shaykh in this booklet was to keep the book simple and easy to read so that anyone can pick it up and benefit.
I recommend all brothers and sisters to read so they learn the Prayer and Fasting of The Prophet Mohammed ﷺ.

Ramadān Is The Month of Victories and Conquests
The month of Ramadān is approaching us at a time when the Ummah is being tested with the struggles in Gaza, Shām and many other lands of the Muslims. We must remind ourselves in this blessed month many great battles were won by the Muslims against our enemies.
We hope in this month Allāh will give victory and ease to the Muslims just how He did to previous generations in this month.
Some of the battles in the month of Ramadān:
- Battle of Badr - referred to as the day of al-Furqān [when the truth was distinguished from falsehood]: In the 2nd year of the Hijra the battle took place on the 17th of Ramadān. This was the first battle fought by the Muslims of Madīnah, following several smaller skirmishes with the polytheists of Quraish from Makkah. Despite the army of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ being outnumbered at close to a 3 to 1 ratio [315 against 950]; it ended up being a major victory for the Muslims.
This battle is mentioned several times in the Qur'ān, including Sūrah Al-Anfāl [8] where Allāh promised the small Muslim army would be reinforced with angels.
- Battle of Al-Qādisīyyah [Persia]: In 15-16th year of the Hijra in the month of Ramadān, the Muslim army led by the companion Sa’ad Ibn Abī Waqqās consisting of 30,000 Muslims set out to meet the Persian army numbering around 100,000 in Qādisīyyah. This battle was set to pave the way for the demise of the Persian empire. The Muslims won this battle, which changed the course of human history and ended the Persian presence and rule.
- Capture of Jerusalem: On 13 Ramadān in the 15th year of the Hijra, the leader of the believers, 'Umar bin Al-Khattāb arrived in Palestine after fierce battles to conquer the Levant, having already received the keys to Jerusalem - which we ask Allah to return in its entirety to the Muslims - and wrote a contract for its residents guaranteeing their lives and property.
- Conquering of india: On 6 Ramadān 92 hijri, Muhammad bin Al-Qāsim defeated the Indian armies on the Sind River and conquered India. This was at the end of the [reign] of [the Umayyad Caliph] Al-Walīd bin 'Abd Al-Malik.
- Conquering Spain: On the 28th of Ramadān 92-93th year of the Hijra, the Muslim army led by Tāriq ibn Ziyād and Mūsa Ibn Nusair was able to conquer al-Andalus [Parts of the Iberian Peninsula ruled by Muslims] with 12,000 Muslims against an army led by Roderic [the ruler of Spain] himself amounting to 90,000. The army burst with great enthusiasm to meet the enemy and Allāh manifested a clear victory over the forces of tyranny and oppression and they conquered Spain.
Islām remained in al-Andalus for more than eight centuries and this land was one of the most important crossing points between Islamic and European civilizations.
And many more….
The month of Ramadān was a great month for the Mujāhidīn [fighters] of this Ummah throughout the generations. We must always rely upon Allāh and strive to be at assistance to the Ummah based on our capabilities.
اللهُمَ أنْصُرْ الاسْلَمُ وَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
O Allāh! Help Islām and the Muslims

Allāh ﷻ Is More Merciful Than A Mother To Her Child
Umar ibn al-Khattāb reported: Some prisoners of war were brought to the Prophet ﷺ and a nursing woman was among them. Whenever she found a child among the prisoners, she would take it to her chest and nurse it.
The Prophet ﷺ said to us, “Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?”
We said, “No, not if she was able to stop it.” The Prophet ﷺ said,
“Allāh is more merciful to His servants than this mother is to her child.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī [no. 5999]
Benefits from the narration:
- Allāh is more merciful to His slaves than the most merciful of mothers to her child, for the One Who made her merciful must be more merciful than her.
- It is not permissible for anyone to despair in the Mercy of Allāh despite how great his/her sins are.
See Majmū’ al-Fatāwā [16/19 & 16/448] - Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [رحمه الله].
Action Plan:
1 - Turn to Allāh in repentance no matter how many sins you have committed.
2 - Supplicate [Dua’a] for the mercy of Allāh.
3 - When going through a calamity say:
“إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٲجِعُونَ"
[Truly! To Allāh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return].
4 - Be merciful to others.

"We will surely cause him to live a good life..."
Explained by Imām Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawzīyyah [D. 751H]
Allāh ﷻ says,
“Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life..." Sūrah An-Nahl 16: 97.
Explanation of the verse:
- The correct view [regarding the meaning of the verse] is that it is the life of the heart [spiritual life] and finding joy and delight in faith, knowing Allāh, loving Him, turning to Him and putting one’s trust in Him. No life is better than the life of the one who has attained this, and no delight is greater than the delights of such a life, except the delights of Paradise.
Benefits from the verse:
- The most enjoyable and pleasurable life of all is that of those who love Allāh and find comfort in remembrance of Him. Their life is the good life in the true sense, and there is no life that is better, more enjoyable and more blessed than that.
- 'A good life' does not mean the kind of life that both believers and disbelievers, righteous and evildoers, may share in terms of good food, good drink, good clothing and physical pleasure. As Allāh may provide this in far greater quantities to His enemies, but that doesn't mean they have a good life.
- What life could be better than the life of one who has all his worries and concerns reduced to a single worry and concern, which is to please Allāh, so his mind and thoughts are not scattered; rather he is totally focused on Allāh and his aims and thoughts, rather than being scattered in all directions, are completely focused on Allāh.
See Madārij as-Sālikīn (3/259) & Al-Jawāb al-Kāfi (p. 129-130).
Action Plan: How Can We Attain A Good Life?
1 - Seek knowledge
2 - Perform all the obligatory acts and strive to do voluntary deeds - Reciting the Qur'ān, voluntary prayers, giving charity and other righteous acts.
3 - Focus on purifying the heart from all deceases.
4 - Find comfort in worshipping Allāh in private.
