The Different Types of Hearts
Types of Hearts
There are three main types of hearts:
1 - A Sound & Healthy Heart:
A sound and healthy heart is that which is attached to Allāh alone. A person with a true and sincere heart will:
• Rely, love and hope in Allāh.
• Forgive people for the sake of Allāh.
• Control anger and desires for the sake of Allāh.
• Be humble and kind with parents, spouse, friends, children for the sake of Allāh.
• And all other praiseworthy traits of the heart.
2 - A Dead Heart:
A dead heart is the opposite of a healthy heart. It does everything to please itself. It is slave of its own desires. If money is what a person with a dead heart desires, then he becomes a slave of money. He does everything and anything for the sake of earning money irrespective of whether it is earned in a Halāl or Harām way.
3 - A Sick Heart:
A sick heart swings between a healthy and a dead heart. This person has love for Allāh, faith in his heart, sincerity towards his duties but at the same time, also loves his desires and prefers them.
See for more information 'Lagāthatul Lahfān Fī Maṣāyid Ash-Shayṭān' by Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim (d. 751H).
Action Plan:
- Memorise the following supplications:
اللهُمَّ طَهِّرْ قَلْبِي مِنْ كُلِّ سُوْءٍ
“O Allāh purify my heart from every evil.”
اللهُمَّ طَهِّرْ قَلْبِي مِنْ كُلِّ خُلُقٍ لا يُرْضِيْكَ
“O Allāh, purify my heart from every characteristic that is not pleasing to You”
اللهُمَّ طَهِّرْ قَلْبِي مِنَ الغِلِّ والحِقْدِ والحَسَدِ والكِبْرِ
“O Allāh, purify my heart from hatred, resentment, jealousy, and arrogance.”

Taqwa & Good Character
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“The Prophet ﷺ established a relationship between the fear of Allāh and good character, because fearing Allāh improves the relation between the servant and Allāh, and good character improves the relation between a person and others. Therefore, fearing Allāh makes it possible for Allāh to love him, and good manners makes it possible for people to love that person.”

Rulings Related To Fasting The 6 Days of Shawwāl After Ramadān
Allāmah Shaykh Abdur Rahmān Ibn Nāsir Al-Barrāk
Abū Ayyūb Al-Ansāri narrated that The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Whoever fasts during the month of Ramaḍān and then follows it with six days of Shawwāl will be [rewarded] as if he had fasted the entire year."
Sahīh Muslim (no. 1164).
Q: The ruling on fasting 6 days in Shawwāl?
- It is Sunnah to fast 6 days in the month of Shawwāl and is not obligatory.
Q: Should I make up my obligatory fasts [i.e. due to menses or travelling] first before the 6 fasts of Shawwāl?
- The obligatory fasts of Ramaḍān that are owed [missed due to a valid excuse] should be performed before the 6 fasts of Shawwāl. Making up obligatory fasts takes priority over doing actions that are recommended .
Q: When to make the Intention for fasting?
- The intention can be made any time in the day as long one has not eaten or drank [or had sexual relations].
Q: Is it a condition to fast the 6 days of Shawwāl one after the other [consecutively]?
- No, it is allowed to fast the 6 days separately throughout the month of Shawwāl and not consecutively.
Q: Is it better to fast the 6 at the beginning or ending of the month of Shawwāl?
- The scholars differed on what is better, but the default in doing good deeds is to hasten to perform them [i.e. fast the 6 straight away].
Q: Can you combine intentions with the 6 of Shawwāl and other Sunnah days to fast?
- It is allowed to combine intentions when fasting Shawwāl. E.g. one can fast on Monday [Sunnah day to fast] and have the intention to fast 1 of the 6 of Shawwāl and hope to be rewarded for both Sunnah days.
Q: If you miss the 6 fasts of Shawwāl for a specific reason [i.e. due to travelling or being on menses] can you perform it in the following month?
- If the 6 fasts of Shawwāl are missed for any valid reason by a man or woman it can be performed in the following month of Dhul Qa’dah.
May Allāh accept our fasts and make us sincere. Amīn

🌙 Ramadān Reminders #30: What Is Recommended To Do On the Day of ‘Eīd Al-Fitr
1 - To take a bath on the morning of ‘Eid:
Ibn Umar would bathe on the morning of Eīd. Muwatta of Imām Mālik (2/248). Authenticated by Imām Nawawī in Majmoū’ (5/6).
2 – Wear the best clothes for the day. As for women, they should not beautify themselves when they go out to the ‘Eīd prayer-place in front of everyone:
It is also known that Ibn ‘Umar would dress in his best clothes for the ‘Eīd. Sunan Al-Bayhaqī (3/281). Authenticated by Imām Ibn Rajab in Fath Al-Bārī (6/68).
3 – It is Sunnah to eat dates before we leave for ‘Eīd Al-Fitr Prayer:
Anas bin Mālik narrates Allāh's Messenger ﷺ never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of `Eīd-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet ﷺ used to eat odd number of dates. Sahīh Bukhārī (no. 953).
4 – It is Sunnah to say Takbīr (saying Allāhu Akbar):
‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to say it out loud on the day of al-Fitr until the Imām came out (to lead the prayers). The chain of transmission is authentic as mentioned by Shaykh Al-Albānī in Irwā’ Al-Ghalīl (3/122).
One can say:
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر كبيراً
Allāhu Akbar, Allāh Akbar, Allāhu Akbar Kabīra. Musannaf Abdur Razzāq (118).
The Takbir begins after the night of Eīd has begun (after the last Iftār) and ends when the ‘Eīd Prayer is completed.
5 – Offering congratulations. Such as saying to one another:
تَقبَّلَ اللهُ مِنَّا ومِنكُم
Taqabbala Allāh minnā wa minkum - May Allāh accept (the good deeds) from us and from you.
Recorded in Al-Hāwī fi Fatāwa of Imām Suyutī (1/94). Authenticated by Shaykh Albāni in Tamīm Al-Minnah (no. 355)
6 - It is Sunnah to pray the ‘Eīd Prayer outdoors:
The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to go out to the prayer-place on the day of ('Eīd) al-Fitr and al-Adhā. Sahīh Bukhārī (no. 956).
7 – It is prescribed for the one who goes out to the Eid prayer to go by one route and return by another:
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh said: On the day of Eid, the Prophet ﷺ would vary his route, i.e., he would go via one route and come back via a different route. Sahīh Bukhārī (no. 986).

🌙 Ramadān Reminders #29: Preparing Goals For After Ramadān
We are coming to the end of Ramadān with only one or two days left. Before Eīd we should review the whole month and how we can maintain the level of worship Post-Ramadān.
Following are a few questions to ask oneself & some goals going forward:
1. How have I spent my free time this Ramadān?
Post Ramadān Goal:
Seek repentance for the time missed and make intention to utilize free time in worship.
2. How much Qur’ān did i recite in this month?
Post Ramadān Goal:
Make intention to read a minimum of 20mins of Qur’ān every day without miss.
3. How much time did I spend in remembrance of Allāh?
Post Ramadān Goal:
Focus on making time every day going forward for the remembrance of Allāh. Either in the morning or night - spend 10mins praising Him.
4. How much did I spend in charity this month?
Post Ramadān Goal:
Set up a direct debit of a minimum of £5 at least to stay consistent in assisting the Ummah through wealth.
5. How many voluntary prayers did I perform?
Post Ramadān Goal:
Begin by starting to pray 2 units of prayer every night before bed with the intention of Tahajjud.
6. Honestly ask yourself was this Ramadān better then the last?
Post Ramadān Goal:
If it wasn’t then start working on yourself straight after Ramadān so ready for the next one if alive. If it was better then stay consistent post-Ramadān.
Hold yourself to account brothers & sisters.
May Allāh keep all of us steadfast. Amīn

🌙 Ramadān Reminders #28: Rulings of Zakāh Al-Fitr Made Easy
Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azīz ibn Marzūq aṭ-Ṭarīfī
Who should pay Zakāh?
It is obligatory on all males and females. It is best for each individual to pay for themselves and if not possible then the guardian can pay on behalf of everyone he is in charge of [even children].
It is recommended and not obligatory to give Zakāh Al-Fitr for the foetus in the mothers womb.
What is meant to be given?
It is meant to be given in the form of a staple food that is custom to that land like rice or flour depending on what people eat in that country.
Can you give cash?
It is not reported from the Prophet ﷺ or the companions that they ever have money [cash].
It is best to provide the food itself but in our time it is allowed to send the value of the food in cash for that to be used to buy the food and then distribute to the poor.
Where should Zakāh Al-Fitr be given?
It is more appropriate to give it to the poor in one’s own country. However if there is a more needy country then it can be sent abroad.
When should it be given?
The best time to give it is between the Fajr and Eīd Prayer.
It is allowed to pay the Zakāh Al-Fitr in advance by a day or two as been reported by the companions of the Prophet ﷺ.
It is incorrect to pay it after the Eīd Prayer.
Based on the fatāwa of Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azīz ibn Marzūq aṭ-Ṭarīfī

🌙 Ramadān Reminders #27: No Amount Is Too Small - DONATE TONIGHT
The Messenger (ﷺ) said with regards to the charity that is given generally: “And save yourselves from the hell fire even if it be with the piece of a date.” Sahīh Muslim
Reflections:
- You think that by giving in charity you are doing a favour to others, but, rather it is a favour to yourself in reality.
- Wake up O Ummah of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ . The Ummah is calling for our help.
- Picture your son, daughter, niece or nephew in this position. What would you do?
Donate as much as you can until your desires feel the pain:

🌙 Ramadān Reminders #26: Benefits of giving Zakāh Al-Fitr
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ obligated Zakāh al-Fitr as purification of the fasting person from vain talk and misbehavior, as food for the poor. Whoever pays it before the ‘Eīd prayer, it is accepted as Zakāh. Whoever pays it after the ‘Eīd prayer, it is part of voluntary charity.
Recorded in Sunan Abī Dāwūd (no. 1609) and others. Classed as Hasan by Imām An-Nawawī in Majmoū (6/126).
Benefits of giving Zakāh Al-Fitr:
1 - It purifies the fasting person from vain talk and misbehaviour that may have been committed whilst Fasting.
2 - It is food that the poor will benefit from. This is so the poor can enjoy the day of ‘Eīd like those who are more wealthy.
3 - It is showing gratitude for Allāh’s blessings on us for giving use strength to fast the month of Ramadân.
4 – Receiving the reward of paying it in its prescribed time (before the ‘Eīd Prayer).
