It’s strange how society treats two natural parts of the human body so differently. Boys’ circumcision (sunnat) is often celebrated openly, with gatherings, gifts, and pride. But menstruation — an equally natural biological process — is hidden, silenced, and surrounded by shame.
Why is one seen as something to celebrate, while the other is treated as something to hide?
This double standard sends a harmful message to girls: that their bodies are embarrassing or “unclean.” It discourages open conversations, limits access to information, and makes girls feel ashamed of something completely normal. No one should feel embarrassed about their own body.
If we can celebrate one natural process, we should at least be able to talk openly and respectfully about the other. Normalizing menstruation isn’t just about comfort — it’s about dignity, health, and equality.

Hello everyone!
The Uyalma team is launching a social initiative in Tashkent, where we’ll be interviewing people about menstruation — their opinions, awareness, and controversial questions. Our goal is to spark open conversations and break the stigma around this topic.
We’ll be conducting these interviews in public spaces, and we’re looking for volunteers to join us. If you’re in Tashkent and want to be part of this initiative, we’d love your help!
We’re also welcoming volunteers from around Uzbekistan. If you’re in Namangan and would like to help with filming the videos, please reach out to @nichecoded
Your involvement can help create real change and we would truly appreciate your support!

Hey everyone! 🪷
We just wanted to say thank you for all the support lately. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes, and we have some exciting updates 🤚
⭐️ We’re currently working on collaborations with companies so that, hopefully, more schools, universities, offices, and other public places will have free access to essential menstrual hygiene products, so woman is left in an uncomfortable situation.
➕ We’re also reaching out to larger period awareness platforms, and your support really matters because it can influence their decision to work with us.
Lastly, we wanted to share a few stories that deserve more attention. These are real cases of girls and women whose lives were lost because of period stigma, shame, harmful traditions, and the lack of menstrual education. They remind us why talking about menstruation is so important.

🤩🤩 Menstruation is a natural biological process and a normal sign of a healthy reproductive system. Yet it is still widely misunderstood and often treated as something unusual or shameful. This misunderstanding fuels silence and misinformation.
🤩🤩
🤩🤩For centuries, menstruation has been considered a taboo. Many girls rely on euphemisms like “those days” to avoid judgment, which reflects how uncomfortable open discussion remains. As a result, girls often struggle to talk about their experiences, access reliable information, or ask for basic hygiene products. This silence creates shame, limits knowledge, and discourages them from seeking medical help when
needed.
🤩To change this, we must normalize menstruation and treat it as a regular part of life. Every girl should have access to accurate information and essential hygiene products. By challenging myths, breaking stigma, and encouraging open conversations, we can empower girls to feel confident in their bodies and ensure they receive the care they deserve.🤩

Several tips on how to always be prepared for your period.
🤩1️⃣Try to track your cycle, you can use apps like Flo or take notes on your phone.
🤩2️⃣Carry an emergency kit in your bag, in a small purse it'll be enough to carry 2-3 pads or tampons, and pain relief medication if you use it.
🤩3️⃣Keep it in multiple places, in your everyday bag or in your home bathroom.
🤩4️⃣Before your period you may notice some symptoms like mood changes, fatigue, back pain, and increased appetite. These signs may help you prepare for your period in advance.
🤩5️⃣Always have a first day plan-try to drink enough water, eat balanced meals, avoid being on a diet during your periods, in addition you may use a warm compress to help relieve cramps.

🧐What Is Uyalma?
Every woman knows this feeling:
You're at school, university, work, or a café, and your period starts unexpectedly. You run to the nearest bathroom, hoping to find a sanitary pad... but there isn't one.
Public bathrooms always provide toilet paper because it's considered an essential hygiene product. We believe menstrual products should be just as accessible🩷
💌That's why we created Uyalma.
Our mission is to place free sanitary product boxes in schools, universities, workplaces, cafés, orphanages, and other public spaces so no girl or woman is left unprepared.✨
📌Uyalma is a non-profit initiative. Every product in our boxes is made possible through donations, grants, and partnerships with organizations and businesses that believe menstrual hygiene is a basic necessity
🔔Stay tuned as we prepare to install our very first Uyalma boxes.
