Facial reconstruction of a 2,400-year-old Scythian from Serbki kurgan, Odesa region, Ukraine
The Scythians, also known as the Saka, were an Iranic-speaking people who originated in the regions of Minusinsk, the Altai, Tuva, Mongolia, and Xinjiang. Their westward migration is linked to the broader development of steppe nomadic cultures.
In the Pontic-Caspian steppe, the Chernogorovka horizon (10th-8th c. BC) is considered the earliest “pre-Scythian” stage, followed by the Novocherkassk phase (8th-7th c. BC), after which the Classical Scythian culture appears. Their migration and settlement in the West led to admixture with various local populations, depending on their location and time period, including the late Srubnaya, Kobanians, para-Balto-Slavs, Greeks, Thracians, and others.

Genetic Admixture of Uzbeks from Kongirat Tribe | (3 Samples)
Y-DNAs:
Köýtendag Kongirat: R1a-YP417
Bukhara Kongirat: D1a-F3956
The Kongirat (Khongirad) tribe is one of the Uzbek tribal groups. In the late 15th and early 16th centuries, under Muhammad Shaybani Khan (1451-1510), the Shaybanid Uzbeks moved from the Dasht-i Kipchak (the Golden Horde steppe) into Transoxiana, overthrowing the Timurid rulers and forcing Babur to flee to India, where he later founded the Mughal Empire.
Early Uzbeks formed through a mixture of several Turkic-Mongol nomadic groups from the Golden Horde, including the Kipchak, Kangli, Qongirat, Manghit, and others.
These three samples may provide a limited view of the genetic admixture of the early Uzbeks.

📚 This subclade can be considered a Oghuz branch of the N-P43 haplogroup. The presence of this haplogroup among Anatolian Turks is linked to the Oghuz migrations.
📖 According to our database, the N-VL67 haplogroup is found in varying proportions in different regions of Anatolia. The closest and most relevant finding to this is the N-VL85 subclade, which has also been found in Kahramanmaraş and Konya. This Y-DNA is found not only in Anatolian Turks but also in Turkmens, Kazakhs, Tatars and Azerbaijani Turks.
