BDU Job and Start-Up Fair 2026 Officially Opens [ June 25, 2026 | Bahir Dar, ISC/ BiT] =======================- Bahir Dar University (BDU) has officially launched its Job and Start-Up Fair 2026, in a ceremony attended by the university president, invited guests, and partner organizations. The event, organized by the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BIT) in collaboration with stakeholders, aims to connect graduating students with employers and foster innovation through start-up initiatives. The program introduced by Mr. Hailemariam Mulugeta, Director of the BIT Business Incubation and Technology Innovation Center, who highlighted the institute’s achievements in hosting multiple innovation competitions during the academic year. He emphasized that the fair provides a platform where graduates can showcase their skills and knowledge directly to employers, paving the way for collaborative opportunities. Welcoming participants, Dr. Mitiku Damtie, Scientific Director of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, underscored BDU’s legacy as one of Ethiopia’s largest universities, with a history spanning 64 years. He noted that the university began with just five programs and has since expanded to offer 20 undergraduate and 65 postgraduate programs at BiT alone. Over the decades, BDU has produced thousands of professionals contributing both nationally and internationally, with alumni working at leading institutions such as NASA, Airbus, Boeing, and Amazon. Opening remarks were delivered by BDU President Dr. Mengesha Ayen described the fair as a milestone initiative, reflecting the university’s vision for the 21st century: solving local challenges through advanced technology while enhancing global competitiveness. He highlighted the role of the Maker Space Center, Ethiopia’s largest, where students transform ideas into practical innovations before graduation. Some graduates have already launched their own companies, proving the center’s impact. Dr. Mengesha added that the fair is designed to bridge graduates with the job market, ensuring their smooth transition into professional careers. He noted that BDU currently offers over 440 programs across undergraduate, postgraduate, specialty, and subspecialty levels, continuously supplying skilled manpower to the labor market.
