Cornell Dyson Business School - Full Ride! I completely confused what Alpamis said: he apparently got a full scholarship to the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, the most competitive undergrad school! I personally had over 70 meetings with him to work on his case - everything from essays to case framing essentially. The Freshman team, including Valera and Malika, also completed a collective ~20 hours of essay support and strategy. Notably, to the best of my knowledge, this is the first time Cornell accepts a student from Uzbekistan itself, not counting our UWC alums of course. I know the "FIRST" thing is a little cringe, but I think it's worth mentioning with Cornell, as it has always had the reputation of not providing much aid. Alpamis is defintely a top 0.01% kinda guy, and everyone who knows him knows that. He has done amazing things for his community in Nukus and beyond, and I'm certain he will do much more with the resources and academic rigor Cornell provides. Statistically speaking, ice cream doesn’t cause shark attacks, pet spending doesn’t drive the number of lawyers in California, and margarine consumption isn’t responsible for Maine’s divorce rate—at least, not according to conventional wisdom. But what if the statisticians got it wrong? Choose your favorite spurious correlation and make the case for why it might actually reveal a deeper, causative truth. Six seven. Two numbers that make gen alpha uncontrollably scream while leaving the millennials in confusion. During the past year, it has become so popular to a point where In-N-Out removed 67 from their orders as visitors were uncontrollably chanting upon the announcement that the 67th order was ready. Even Google has added a special animation that pops up when 67 is searched on the browser. The meme’s comedic value is purely satirical as it doesn’t contain any inherent meaning by itself. The act of moving hands in different vertical directions while saying “six seven” is absurd and that’s the whole point. During the same period that 6-7 memes became popular, more and more people are converting to atheism from their religion. These two statistics may initially appear unrelated, but let’s connect with our post hoc fallacies for a second and consider that perhaps they’re connected. Maybe, just maybe, the rise in atheism has led to 67? Before we get to that, let’s have a brief history lesson. During the 17th century, when Europeans were able to make better sense of the world around them using science, secularism became popular which gave birth to a certain approach in life: modernism. Modernism is characterized with a movement towards science and rationalism away from traditions. In response to modernism, another movement was created: postmodernism. It is the rejection of overarching belief systems and universalism. This led to a culture war on its own, which gave birth to another form of approach in life called metamodernism. It states that the world oscillates between modernism and postmodernism. The exponential rise in popularity of atheism indicates that people no longer buy the grand narratives offered by religion. Such a trend could suggest that the world is becoming increasingly postmodernistic. Instead of replacing faith with another system of meaning, many people are opting out of meaning entirely. Rejection of grand narratives over the years could have become so systematic that we even stopped looking for meanings in what’s supposed to derive its value from meaning: memes. Increase in atheist people could signal that postmodernism won the culture war, but it’s slipping into our lives in a way that philosophers never imagined. It became part of the biggest culture — Internet — through irony, satire, and memes that reject the meaning altogether. Six-seven doesn’t argue against God, but it simply refuses to engage. The joke works precisely because it has no thesis. Six-seven offers participation rather than the truth or purpose. In a world increasingly skeptical of absolutes, screaming “six-seven” becomes a low-stakes substitute for belief: communal, ritualistic, and deliberately hollow. Modernism asked us to believe in progress. Religion asked us to believe in God. Six-seven asks for neither. It thrives in a cultural moment where sincerity feels naive and explanation feels unnecessary. Comedy is the revelation of unacknowledged truth and the meme’s success goes on to show that people have become comfortable laughing without a particular search for meaning. An increasingly atheistic world created a culture that doesn’t needs narratives to feel connected which snowballed into six-seven. Maybe our metamodernistic pendulum is shifting more towards its postmodernist end or maybe it’s going to be stuck there for a while. Whatever it is, you know whom to blame when you see your nephew screaming six-seven.
