We tested every open Amharic speech recognition model. Nobody had measured them on data the models couldn't have already seen. So we did, on 1,548 recordings where we knew exactly what was said. Three things surprised us: β€’ The smaller model beat the bigger one β€’ A monolingual model beat the multilingual one β€’ Two fair ways of counting mistakes disagreed about the winner Then we built a 538 MB Amharic language model that fixes three more words in every hundred, and put it online so you can talk to it. πŸŽ™οΈ Try it (speak or upload audio): https://huggingface.co/spaces/Chapimenge/amharic-asr-demo πŸ“Š Benchmark, language model, code, and everything that went wrong: https://huggingface.co/datasets/snapwre/amharic-asr-benchmark πŸ“ The full story: https://dataset.et/blog/which-amharic-speech-model Free to use. If you're building anything that listens to Amharic, take it. Dataset.ET Β·

So guys I wanted to do a vlog, but on the vlog, instead of me talking whatever, I was wondering to answer questions from an sma there, so that I can answer all of them and the video would be nice, what do you guys think????

Let me tell you something that happened right now. I just got rejected from a Job after 5 interviews and almost 3 months, and I am so proud of myself. yk why? When the process started there were 200+ people who applied and every stage i passed and only two left, me and one other developer, even the last interview went really great and i really thought i landed the job, but I didn't and the reason was more experience, even after rigorous process, that guy had more experience than me (3 years lol) and I am like very proud because I have reached this far and I know there is a lot to learn but its so humbling at the same time, I realized that I have potential. The company was really good, YC backed (2021), and i was joining as a Founding Engineer. The CEO actually set up a call to tell me about the decision because they really liked me and want to still keep in touch and didn't want to just send an email and they said i might join them a bit later as they have the budget to hire only one person, the pay was really good like 80K+ a year. but you know, we got this, even tho there aren't as many opportunities, and i think that's getting better now, There is always time to learn, grow, expand and reach levels we don't think we might reach. I got rejected and I am happy to be humbled and an opportunity to learn more.
