In just a short while, elections for the State Duma will take place in Russia. Meanwhile, over 120 years ago, Russians experienced something entirely new: choosing their deputies for the first time.
Our friend’s channel recently released an in-depth episode about the first State Dumas of the Russian Empire. Discover how elections worked under Nicholas II, why one voter’s ballot could carry dozens of times more weight than another’s, why the tsar repeatedly dissolved the Duma, and how a parliament originally created to save the monarchy ended up at the heart of the 1917 upheaval.
So ahead of the upcoming elections, we highly recommend watching this deep dive into where it all began:

How to tell a true Muscovite apart from an outsider?
She couldn’t care less about Moscow City, Gorky Park, or Red Square—she already knows cozier spots without the crowds.
She doesn’t eat at restaurants in Patriki or Depot—Moscow has hundreds of places where you can get amazing food for 500 rubles.
Bottom line: locals always know the real gems. And that’s exactly what the @moscowbaby channel is about.
They share curated picks of affordable cafes, atmospheric spots perfect for walks and photos, and event guides tailored to each neighborhood.
Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or are just visiting for the weekend, this channel will help you discover Moscow in a whole new way—and surprise yourself along the way.

Clytie in Greek mythology was an Oceanid, daughter of Oceanus and the Titanide Theia. According to Ovid’s *Metamorphoses* (IV, 256–270), Clytie, hopelessly in love with Helios (Apollo), was driven to madness when her affections went unreturned. She could not look away from him, endlessly turning her gaze to follow the sun as it moved across the sky. Bound to the earth, she eventually transformed into a heliotrope — a flower that perpetually turns its face toward the sun (like the sunflower).
