*️⃣M Garden City hotel
Architect #HoKhue
City #DaNang
Country #Vietnam #AP
🔤M Hotel is designed with the concept of a flowing stream on the surface of a rocky mountain. The fair-faced #rawconcrete material evokes the image of a sturdy structure, resembling a majestic mountain mass in nature.
Meanwhile, the flowing stream is represented by winding, curving lines of #greenery, seamlessly intertwined with the building.
The placement of green garden areas on the hotel's surface is intertwined with a variety of spaces for each room. The ocean-facing rooms are constructed with large glass walls to take advantage of the breathtaking views. Meanwhile, the west-facing rooms, which face the city center, are positioned further back to allow for green garden spaces.

🔤The tower, intended as the highest part of the whole M City development, will have a unique geometry befitting its role as a beacon for the entire area.
Its characteristic undulating geometric presence is a series of twisted horizontal #mattglass balconies that form the entire shaft of the tower.
Second towed is envisioned as being an 'identical twin' to the tower of phase 1. Rather than introducing a new material palette and geometry for the phase 2 tower we simply rotated the existing design 90 degrees. By doing this when one views the two buildings from any angle the short end of one tower and the long end of the other will always be visible at the same time.
Similar approach is also exhibited by Absolute towers in the same city.

🔤The massing - entirely made of upcycled ISO shipping containers - is organized in a V generating a triangular open yard with swimming pool and sundeck. They were stacked and cut on site, and combined to form the units. A large diagonal cut-out, from the corner to the center of each container long side, generates the large windows for the units on street and courtyard sides. Its repetition and mirroring generate the building façade pattern. #budget@simoderna

Architect #Aalto #AlvarAalto
City #Vyborg
Country #Russua #EU part
🔤The Library of 1935 ceased to be used after the Second World War, when Vyborg was ceded to the Soviet Union. Although it survived the war with little damage, it stood abandoned for many years. #retro@simoderna
Restoration finally started in 1991 under the Finnish Committee and was completed in 2013 with major funding from the Russian Government, restoring the building's original architectural value.
The highlight of the original design was the main reading room with its undulating, wave-like ceiling. It combined function and aesthetics, diffusing natural light to reduce glare while providing excellent acoustics.
Another reading room is lit by 57 conical skylights. Their geometry blocks direct sunlight year-round, protecting books from glare while evenly diffusing daylight to create soft, shadow-free lighting throughout the space for visitors.

🔤"I wanted the building to represent Dior and to reflect Christian Dior’s work. So I wanted the surfaces to flow, like the couturier’s soft, woven white cotton fabric."
These surfaces, which soar into the sky and undulate as if in motion, crossed by a few lines, are made from long moulded fiber glass shells, fitted together with aircraft precision. #GFRC@simoderna
The entrance, where two shells come together, is a sort of modern lancet arch, in which two metal mesh surfaces cross in line with the clothing metaphor.

Architects Nigo (1), Nao Tamura (2), Kazoo Sato (3), Tadao Ando (4) and Toyo Ito (5)
🔤"In contrast to the ever-changing city of Tokyo with its sky-high buildings, I envisioned a toilet that feels like a good old home that stands quietly on a corner of Harajuku. The toilet may feel nostalgic to some and new to others." Nigo said. (1)
Tamura's toilet was informed by Origata – the traditional Japanese method of gift wrapping – to reference the notion of hospitality. "The renovation was conceived in the spirit of hospitality and as a gift to Shibuya's tourists" Tamura told Dezeen. (2)
"The Hi Toilet was developed in response to heightened hygiene concerns after the Covid-19 pandemic. It uses voice commands to operate the door, flush, tap, and music, allowing users to avoid touching surfaces", explained Sato. (3)
"I sought to exceed the boundaries of a public toilet to become a 'place'" said Ando. "For the concept of this structure, I chose to utilize a circle floor plan with a spanning roof and engawa (Japanese porch)." (4)
The Japanese architect broke his facility into three cylindrical blocks that are topped with overhanging dome-shaped roofs to create a form "reminiscent of the mushrooms" that grow in the forest surrounding the nearby shrine. (5)

City #Tokyo
Country #Japan #AP
🔤Takenosuke Sakakura’s design, named Andon after a Japanese type of lantern will be illuminated at night to make the park a more inviting and safe space. (1)
Users can know if the toilets are empty from far away, as the glass exterior will be transparent if the bathroom is empty, making it particularly useful and safe at night. (2)
The toilet was designed to integrate with the park's trees and lush greenery. Kengo Kuma wanted to dispel the conventional image of public toilets. (3)
Fujimoto's toilet block was designed to resemble a large sink and incorporates a communal hand-washing area. (4)
Marc's design recalls vernacular Japanese craft, such as the copper Minoko roof which is often found in shrines in rural areas. The aging of such material will integrate the structure with its environment over time. (5)

Architect #Gang #StudioGang
City #SanFrancisco
Country #USA #NA
🔤The design evolves the classic bay window, a familiar feature of San Francisco's early houses, reimagining it in a high-rise context. Twisting incrementally over the height of the tower, the bays offer ample views, natural light throughout the day, and fresh air. #context@simoderna
Extending the habitable spaces within and offering platforms from which to view the city at all angles, the bays make every residence a corner unit.
A sophisticated curtain wall facade system allows the bays to be attached to a repeatable structural slab from inside the building, reducing the need for a tower crane on site and limiting energy consumption and neighborhood impact during construction. #sustainability@simoderna

Country #SouthKorea #AP
🔤Partnering up with Peter Marino who designed the interiors of the project, Gehry found inspiration not only in his renowned shapes featured in his Paris intervention, but also in key elements of the historical Korean architecture “such as the Hwaseong Fortress, as well as the swooping movements and white costumes of the Dongnae Hakchum”. #context@simoderna
Situated on the existing site of the original Louis Vuitton store, the structure’s front is entirely covered by glass, creating some sort of a “high zig-zagging vestibule and window, leading up to a series of enclosed terraces”. Resting on a base of white stone, the construction has a strong sense of lightness.

Architect #NEXT
City #Changsha
Country #China #AP
🔤The striking red Lucky Knot is a cross-combination of two worlds; traditional Chinese culture and modern, rational architecture. The shape is inspired by the principle of the infinite Möbius ring and refers to the Chinese knot art. In this ancient decorative Chinese folk art, the knot symbolizes luck and prosperity, as well as the colour red.
The bridge connects multiple levels at different heights; such as the river banks, the road, the higher-placed park as well as the interconnections between them.
The Lucky Knot makes an important contribution to the renewal of the city’s public space with its recreational, ecological and tourist program. The iconic red bridge gives a new identity to the New Lake District.

Architect #PTW
City #Beijing
Country #China #AP
🔤The Water Cube's design was initiated by a team effort: the Chinese partners felt a square was more symbolic to Chinese culture and its relationship to the Bird's Nest stadium while the Sydney-based partners came up with the idea of covering the 'cube' with bubbles, symbolizing water.
Contextually, the Cube symbolizes Earth, while the circle (represented by the elliptic stadium) represents heaven, a common motif in ancient Chinese art.
Comprising a steel space frame, it is the largest ETFE-clad structure in the world with over 100,000 m2 of ETFE pillows that are only 0.2 mm in total thickness. #record@simoderna
In July 2003 the Water Cube design was chosen from 10 proposals in an international architectural competition for the aquatic center project.

Architect #Gang #StudioGang
City #Chicago
Country #USA #NA
🔤Borrowing from the terrestrial topography, the tower was imagined as a vertical landscape made up of hills, valleys, and pools.
“Gang turned the facade into an undulating landscape of bending, flowing concrete, as if the wind were blowing ripples across the surface of the building. You know this tower is huge and solid, but it feels malleable, its exterior pulsing with a gentle rhythm.” Quote by Paul Goldberger for the New Yorker.
Strategically sculpting the shape of each floor slab offers comfortable outdoor terraces, where neighbors can casually and comfortably interact when desired, as well as views to Chicago landmarks.

Architect #MVRDV
City #Rotterdam
Country #Netherlands #EU
🔤The municipality wanted to extend the existing open air market with a covered addition. According to stricter European rules in the future the open air sale of fresh and chilled food would not be permitted anymore. Next to this the municipality wanted to augment the amount of inhabitants in the city centre in order to create more capacity for the services in the area.
Provast and MVRDV had seen in the South of Europe that these kind of market halls are often dark, introverted buildings with little connection to the surrounding urban area. The building needed to be as open as possible to attract the public and at the same time it had to be closed off due to weather conditions.
The exterior of the Markthal is executed in grey natural stone, the same as on the pavements, to put the emphasis onto the interior.
A colourful mural by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam lines the one-hectare surface beneath the arch. Printed onto perforated aluminium panels, it displays images of flowers and insects derived from 17th century Dutch paintings.

Architect #ASCo #Aoki #JunAoki #Shinagawa
City #Tokyo
Country #Japan #AP
🔤For the renewal of the Tiffany flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo, architects sought to create a new ‘pillar of water’ in Ginza. The design is inspired by the transparency, fluidity, and ever-changing appearance of water.
"We were very conscious that the design could easily become too rigid and imposing. So, early on, our core vision was a 'facade like a wisteria trellis swaying in the soft wind'," Aoki told Dezeen. "To make sure it didn't look too heavy, we needed a subtle 'shimmer' that would both fit in and stand out," he said.
"The three-dimensional #curvedglass panels, which account for 25 per cent of the total surface area, present a significant challenge: not only does each panel have a unique curved shape, but the angle of the supporting marionettes also varies at each support point," explained the architect.
These glass panels curve around and above the store's ground level to reveal a glazed front. Here, a signed entrance at the street corner guides visitors into the space.

Architect #NUDES
City #Guwahati
Country #India #AP
🔤This concept for Guwahati International Airport draws inspiration from Assam’s lush landscapes and the biodiversity that thrives in the Brahmaputra valley such as bamboo and the foxtail orchid (kopou phool).
Lead architect, Nuru Karim’s approach marries ecological sensitivity with cultural symbolism, using engineered bamboo, passive cooling, natural lighting, and green walls to craft a terminal that is a transit hub and a sustainable landmark. A planted “Sky Forest” and generous daylighting soften long walks and reduce stress.
By embedding the essence of Assam and the North-East into the airport's architecture, this project celebrates and honours the region's distinctiveness.

Architect #MAD
City #Mississauga close to #Toronto
Country #Canada #NA
🔤The Absolute Towers do not conform to the standard linear and mechanical approach of our modern cities. They are something softer, organic and livable.
Each floor features continuous balconies, eliminating the vertical boundaries that are typical of this architectural typology. The aim was to provide 360 degree views for each residential unit, opening them up to the surrounding scenery, reawakening city dwellers’ appreciation for nature.
The twisting compositions of the towers are reminiscent of feminine curves, representing something more sculptural and human, as opposed to geometric and commercial.
The towers are intended to introduce a natural and humanistic element into an urban fabric otherwise characterized by repetitive boxy buildings. A response to the context of Mississauga.
